im in the market t buy a new amp. ive played a deluxe reverb RI at guitar center and i felt it lacked the sparkly tone i kind of wanted(may of been guitar or somthing else). i definatley want all-tube combo. havent played the twin RI yet. is the twin relivatley the same tone? opions? i play classic rock, jazz, and blues. i play out of a strat and les paul mainley and some teles and holowbodies and i mainly want a nice vintage tone for my strat. anything sugestions or idea will help. ill be heading back to sam ash and guitar center soon to try more out. ill spend up to about 1400 dollars.

Re: need new amp

Try out a Super Sonic by Fender. This is a very versatile amp. It will do your Strat right and all of your other guitars also.

Re: need new amp

Forgive me, but as a guy who plays nothing but strats, teles, and les pauls with vintage-style pickups into a DRRI, it shocks me to say that it wasn't sparkly like you wanted.

I'll admit, the stock speaker ain't the best, but new tubes and a new speaker make the deluxe RI a lot more "vintage sounding".

And yes, the twin is very much the same kind of tone. Not much more sparkly IMO, but deeper bass and more sustain, lots more volume and headroom, and the mid knob and bright switch let you tailor things more to your setup.

But my other favorite "sparkly" amp, or one could also say chimey, is the Vox AC30. If the DRRI and AC30 don't sparkle like you want then I'm flabbergasted.

yeah they didnt really have a good selection of strats id like to play on that day. so it could very well be that. i really didnt have much time to mess around on the amp so ill def have to go back.

Re: need new amp

I'm with FuseG4. I'm kind of shocked that you wouldn't find a DRRI to be "sparkly," but I guess those kinds of things are different for each individual. I'd definitely recommend a speaker change. An Eminence Texas Heat has that top end sparkle that you need and it's generally an ideal speaker for Fender amps. Keep in mind that a speaker change isn't something immediate. It takes time to break a speaker in.

Pickups and other things make a difference too. You can always get a top boost to give you that extra sizzle and drive. There are lots of great top boosts on the market. If none of those things works and you still can't find the tone, then I highly recommend on of the other Fenders like the 57 Deluxe Reissue. That's got to be one of the most remarkable amps they make. If I was a blues player, that would probably be my go-to amp.

If you have the money, there are other brands that deliver that kind of sparkle and spank like Divided By 13, etc..., but if you can get your hands on a 57 Deluxe RI, you will see what I mean.

Re: need new amp

When amp shopping locally, it's always a good idea to take your guitar with you. Every guitar I've ever seen on the shelf at a GC needed a new set of strings at the very least.

Re: need new amp

I couldn't afford the 57 Deluxe RI... so I got a Les Lius :)

It's not the same, no. I can even hear it across youtube clips. but is it sparkly? **** yes

Re: need new amp

Deluxes are sparkle city. Musta been something wrong with either the guitar or the amp.
Twins have some similarities, but are a different beast entirely sonically speaking. More headroom, more bass and the sweetest most epic mother of all reverb sounds emanatinc from the big tank. I love deluxes for their ability to warm up and overdrive, and i love twins for their ability to keep clear and huge at any volume. Both killer amps with a similar basic eq curve but they serve very different purposes. You really need to take your own axe along and have a fresh set of strings on to see what these two beautiful sounding amps can do. If you have your favourite overdrive pedal take that along too.
Persuant to the earlier comment about eminence texas heat speakers - yeh - nothing better for a twin IMO, but for a deluxe, the cannabis rex rules the roost. Neither are considered to be trebly speakers, but they soak up the bright top end of both amps and juts make it shine in a really sweet manner. BOth amps come stock with the workmanlike but uninspiring jensen c12k - these have plenty of tops but it can be a little on the hard ear splitting side, so the eminences really are an upgrade both for warm tones and also that piano like chimey clear top end. Definitely worth condsidering to convert two really great amps into something even better.
If none of that helps you then try a vox ac-15 or an ac-30 - these generally also need a speaker swap too to sound their best depending on the model. I like the chime of the ac-30, but its difficult to get it to emulate the really satisfying bottom end that a twin can provide. Its all about balance and personal preference of course.
