Hi,
I have 2x15 and 4x12 '70's Ampeg cabinets that I'd like to outfit with new speakers. I'd like to either get both cabs to 8 ohms, or both cabs to 16 ohms. If they were both 8, I could run both cabs in parallel at 4 total, or both in series at 16 total (or a single cab at 8 total). If they were both 16, I could run one at 16, or both in parallel at 8 total. I could deal with either option, but I think having each at 8 Ohms will be a hair more versatile.
So I think I need two 16 Ohm or two 4 Ohm 15's (parallel 16 Ohm wiring or series 4 Ohm wiring), and four 8 Ohm 12's (series/parallel wiring for 8 Ohms).
For the 12's, I'm looking at Eminence's only 12" bass speakers, the Basslite S2012's. Any thoughts on these? Any other suggestions?
For the 15's, there seem to be plenty of options. The cab is a heavy bastard, though, so I'm looking at Eminence's Basslite C2515's. They are the right impedance, and they would shave 20–30 pounds off the cab's weight. Any comments on these speakers? Any other suggestions?
A possibly important consideration in this application is that I will be playing primarily in BEAD tuning through these cabs.
Another cool thing would be to keep this relatively affordable. I don't need to be spending $1,000 on speakers. I might be able to justify five or six hundred, though.
