Need opinions for my next project

Hey guys, looking for some opinions to help me decide which pickups to use in my next project.

I'm upgrading my Washburn HB32 and I;ve got two sets of pickups to choose from. The guitar is a semi-hollow ES style, but with mahogany body and neck.

Your thoughts, please

Set #1: DiMarzio Air Classic neck, VPAF bridge, zebras both. This is a set of A5 pickups.

Set #2: Gibson 490R neck, '57 Classic bridge. 490 is double black, '57 is double cream. This is a set of A2 pickups.

Here's the patient :smokin:

no duncans? :fingersx:

of the two, i will pick set #1 since your hb32 is mostly mahogany which translates to mids aplenty. a5 paf-style pickups usually sound a tad scooped. the extended lows and highs will complement the inherent mids nicely.

btw, how does the hb32 play? if i am going for a 335-style, that will be the one i will go for.

Well i would have to say the 1st set too, & good for you, not too many people think outside the box(the whole limiting to duncans, no offense).:6:

Out of those two sets, I'd say the first would be what I would go for, but, if you want to try something a bit different, I recommend the Phat Cats. I have a set in my Sheraton and they sound fab. :)

I thought about P90 style pickups. In fact, one of my plans involved putting a set of actual dogear P90s on it. It would look so cool!

dani, it plays just as nice as the Epi Dot I used to have. I several aspects, it's a nicer guitar than the Dot. The fit and finish are higher quality for sure. I think that Washburns in general are pretty nice guitars. I really dug this one for the mahogany vibe it has.

Sounds like the DiMarzio set might work a little better with the all-mahogany construction. We'll see how it turns out :D
