Need opinions on some 2x12 combos

Hey all, Im gonna be headin off to some music stores this weekend and test out/purchase a 2x12 combo amp.

What I need is a versatile amp that will be good for studio recording, and possibly live playing (or could easily hook up some serious speaker cabs for live play). I also tune my guitars low, so it will need to beable to handle some low tuning and serious overdrive/effects. I was looking at the joe satch peavey 2x12 amp, as it has some pretty cool features, and serious tubes in it. I would like some real quality sound, however I would like to try to keep it under 1500$ if all possible.

A Peavey 5150 might be right up your alley, it is a monstrous sounding amp with more distortion than you will ever need. There's a good reason a lot of metal bands use that amp. The same goes for the Triple XXX. I haven't tried the Satch, but it sounds like it may be suited for your needs.

Be sure to try some Line 6 combos!

if you want it for live playing, id steer you away from the line 6 stuff. great for home use but they disappear with a band on stage, they just dont cut thru a mix well at all.

for heavy styles the peaveys mentioned above would be cool as would some mesa stuff. marshalls might work too depending on what tone youre after but both marshall and mesa tend to be expensive. if you can find a good used amp, jump on it

the peavey suggestions are good ones...also check out some Genz-Benz, H&K, and Mesa...and definitely buy used if you can!

Look at a Hughes & Kettner or Mesa. They both make some very versatile heads. I happen to prefer the voicing of the H&K Triamp, but Mesa makes some serious gear. Mesas seem to be popular with a lot of drop tuned players, so that may be a factor for you.
