need some help!

Hi everyone, this is my first post.I'd like to change up my cheap squier strat by changing the pickups and getting a new pickguard. Right now the set up is SSS, But id like to change it to HS. I'm a lefty so ill be ordering the pickguard from warmoth. My first question is with the 2 pickups, can i have just one volume and one tone knob? Also, do i need to get the 5 way switch? or could i use a gibson one? thanks

Yes, you can use a single volume and tone knob with an HS configuration.

Although a 5-way switch may offer maximum versatility (depending on what pickups you use), the Gibson-style 3-way toggle will work, as well. It should also be noted that you can get 3-way blade switches that fit the 5-way slot, in case you want the option to go either way in the future.

What pickups are you considering upgrading to?

thanks! For the neck, i am still not sure what single coil to use. Something with a very nice clean tone. But for the bridge, i'm going to use a JB. But since i'm ordering off warmoth, they don't give the option for a slot to be put in for a gibson switch. What should i do? thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Precisely which version of Squier Stratocaster do you have? Pickguard outlines and screw hole positions vary surprisingly widely.

A 'guard intended intended to fit US, MIJ and MIM guitars, offered up to an MIC example, may leave some fastening screws trying to bite into thin air. The MIC pickguard extends further towards the dished jack socket plate than any of the more expensive variants. It may be necessary to improvise a solution to this situation.

Even with just two pickups, there are interesting coil combinations beyond the obvious bridge/both/neck. Four conductor pickups and a 24 contact Superswitch would permit numerous possibilities WITHOUT resorting to countless little mode switches.

Well i'm not sure if its squier actually. Its just the body, i have another neck that i'm going to put on. I'm going to try to wire it all. I can post a picture if that helps?
