Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

Reccomend me some new guiar cables. I like to have at least one side with a 90 degree jack. Looking for some strong, sturdy, and flexible cables. Something that can take a beating.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

I just got a pair of these in 25 ft. Right angle/straight. They had a black-fri sale with free shipping.....watch for the next sale. So far I like em'. Flexible but tend to "coil up" a little. They flex but don't twist so well, if that makes sense.........Otherwise they really seem like they're built to take some abuse!!

I don't believe in all the cable bull****. I'd just go with a standard cable that you can get from any guitar shop. I use tweed ones, because I prefer the look.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

I actually need one at the moment. Only have one working cable, and I REALLY want one that doesn't tangle up.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

I've been using these for awhile now. They're very reliable and take plenty of abuse. I own a 12ft and a 6ft, never had an issue with either. They're pretty inexpensive too. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Monster...Angled-Instrument-Cable-102469699-i1128535.gc

If you're willing to spend the cash these are some of the best you can get. I'm going on 3 years with my 6ft version, still no issues with it. http://www.guitarcenter.com/Monster...Angled-Instrument-Cable-102589488-i1128578.gc

I'd suggest saving yourself the money and going with Monster Cable, I went through a few Live Wire and Planet Waves cables before I finally decided to switch over to Monster Cables.

I use these currently.
I like the way that my Spectraflex cable doesn't tangle but it filters the highs and high mids quite a bit, but there are different models that I haven't tried so I wouldn't throw that brand out.

I need to try these. They look top notch.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

I always prefer to roll my own using Mogami wire, but if you can't I suggest premade Mogami or Planet Waves.

I use pretty much exclusively Mogami cables. I make all my own I could have sworn there was a thread a while back of someone showing how they make their cables. Its actually a very easy process if your handy with a soldering iron. Mogami cables sound very neutral to me and thats what I like.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

Thanks guys. I'll look into them.
I used live wires for awhile, but they always seem to just cut out or stop working when I REALLY need them to work..... Especially at the gig I played Monday.... They just decided to cut out when ever they want......

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

Monster cable is absolute garbage. I can't believe people still fall for their bull****.

If you want gig quality professional cables, you want Mogami. They are the industry standard for a reason.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

Hmmmm..... The Mogami sound promising then. I checked them out, and I like what I was seeing....

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

I got a 10' straight/90 with gold ends from GFS about 2 months ago and I'm happy

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

Evidence audio cables. I thought it was all snake oil until I was able to reliably compare them to the big name brands.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

For the price / quality, Mogami 2524 with Neutrik jacks. It can be used even for pedal board.
Evidence Audio The Lyric II HG is top-notch, as some Vovox but, they are so thick that are a mess hunging from your guitar.
Mogami's 2524 is second to none.
I've tested all those (among a bunch other).

This is a comparison video I did with Mogami 2524 / Evidence Audio The Forte / Evidence Audio The Lyric II:

I recommend you nearfield studio monitors and a good sound card to hear the details or, plain-EQ mixing headphones.

And, this one a previous comparison I did with 6 different cables, from cheap to expensive (not including Mogami) but, including:

Thoman The Sssnake Vintage cable (cheaper)
Cordial CGK 175 (cheap)
Vox Class A Instrument Cable (medium)
George L's 225 (medium)
Evidence Audio The Forte (high)
Evidence Audio The Lyric II HG (high)
Vovox Sonorus A350 (high)

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

I use planet waves ... best value on the market from what I've tried. I had my cables stolen (:dot:) and got 2 Planet waves 10 ft cables shipped for $18.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

I have used braided DiMarzios for years and personally love them:

PS. Not to be a negative nanny, but that comparison video a few up reminds me how goofy the internet makes some things. I LOL'd at the video!

I personally like Mogami and Spectraflex cables. You can't go wrong with either one. I've got Spectraflex cables going on 20 years old and still going strong.

Re: Need Some New Guitar Cables..........

I've been touring with Evidence Lyric HG for the past few years and they are easily the best cables I've ever used. I then replaced all of the horrible little solderless cables on my pedal board with Evidence Reveal, Neutrik plugs all round, and it has made the pedal board sonically transparent. Anyone who says they can't hear the difference between generic stranded cable like Mogami and the solid core stuff like the Lyric HG doesn't have enough hearing acuity to be taken seriously. The generic cable types will suit a lot of players better than the solid core, because cable like the Lyric HG can be pretty confronting when you first use it, and it will definitely expose any weak points in your signal chain. It also may not suit the OP, because it's quite stiff and won't work well for somebody who wants to jump around a lot on stage.

Mogami is certainly one of the better quality generic stranded cables, but I could never go back to it after the Evidence stuff. As with everything tone related, it really comes down to the individual. If the rest of your rig is mediocre, then Evidence cable would be a waste of money, and a generic cable would be all that is needed. But I can understand why David Gilmour ended up wiring his entire rig (including internal amp wiring) and studio with Evidence cable, it really is outstanding.

Cheers............................. wahwah
