Need some P.A.F Help!!!

Hey guys! I'm usually a Seymour Duncan man but want to try something new. So far what got my interests is the Lindy Fralin Pure P.A.F, the David Allen P 51 Mustang Set, the David Allen Tru 59 P.A.F set (I'm not 100% on these but I have t ruled them out yet), and finally the DiMarzio 36th Anniversary P.A.F set. Was really impressed with the DiMarzios especially for their price, I never usually consider DiMarzio because I usually think of them for more of a metal type. Was also really impressed with the clips of the Lindy Fralins and the David Allen P51 Mustangs. These 3 are my main considerations but I still haven't ruled of the Tru 59 P.A.F. The guitar I'm looking to put these in is a Gibson Les Paul Signature T. It has the options for split coils that I want to keep. I know the DiMarzios are able to split but I'm not completely sure on the others. I was hopeing some of you could give me some feedback on these pickups and let me know how your experience with them went and if they are splittable. I watched multiple clips for each of them but never got to hear them in person. I usually play rock/hard rock and some blues. I hope you guys can help me out! Thanks guys!

Re: Need some P.A.F Help!!!

I have a set of Fralin PAF's. Very clear & articular, without sounding overly bright or thin. Excellent tones, as you'd expect from Fralin.

You do have Seth's, don't you?

Re: Need some P.A.F Help!!!

It currently has the Seymour Duncan Slash set in it.. the bridge pickup wasn't splittable but the guitar originally came with ones that split but I no longer have them.

Re: Need some P.A.F Help!!!

You can split coils easily on any HB. Two wires comes from each coil, one from each connects the coils together, one is hot, & the other is ground. Take the tape off the wires that connect the coils, you'll see the solder blob that holds them together. Run a (shielded) wire from there (solder it into the solder blob & retape) and run it down into the control cavity. That's your wire to connect to a push-pull pot for coil cut. If you make the tone pot the push-pull, you can leave the existing connections on the volume pot. Only takes a few minutes.

I did not like the A4 Fralin humbuckers I owned enough to keep them. I liked them...just didn't like them enough to keep them.

I do like the newer Fralin A2 humbuckers but I've only heard Lindy demonstrate them and he doesn't play with a pick...just his thumb.

Lindy will make them with modern cable so you can split them.

Or you can add a wire to your Slash pickups as Bluesman suggests.

You'll void the warranty of course.

I like those Slash pickups a lot!

Tone- and behaviour-wise, IME these are the closest to the original. You can order'em 4-con for the splitting, altough I've never liked the splitted PAF tone in *any* PAF clone in the market, boutique or not.

I'm a former owner of those p'ups, so I know exactly what I'm talking about. I sold'em only because I had bills to pay due to health problems.

If you decide to contact Bill, tell him Pepe sent you.

HTH,
