I am changing the speakers in my 4x12 cab i want ot go with E.V. or JBL but all i can find are car speakers and was wondering what you guys thought and if it would work or would i just be messing up.

Re: need speaker advice

Guitar speakers typically have different frequency response than other 12" speakers. I'd suggest passing on the car speakers.

Re: need speaker advice

You don't want car speakers because the frequency response range is not right for a guitar.
You can get the California series from Weber if you want a JBL style speaker for less money. Weber
On ebay you can usually find JBL d120f speakers, which are excellent for guitar.

Re: need speaker advice

would a new celestion high wattage handling speaker get the same kind of sound?

or a celestion 12 inch bass speaker?

Re: need speaker advice

cool i'll check out the weber speakers. i didnt think the car speakers would work but it was worth a shot. thanks.

Re: need speaker advice

Another great option would be an Eminence Swap Thang 12", it has nearly the same specs as an EV12. It sounds incredible.

Re: need speaker advice

DO NOT use car speakers.

Go with Celestions or Eminence. They are less inexpensive than Webers and are the industry standard. I use Celestion Vintage 30's and they are great.

Re: need speaker advice

Since JBLs were mentioned in the original post, I suggested the Weber Californias because they are like the JBL d120f, which are very popular. I think they are $88.

Re: need speaker advice

If you go on ebay and punch in a search for EV Force 12 or a EVM 12 you should find something. Eminence has alot of new speakers in their Patriot and Red Coat series that are pretty inexpensive to try out. Yyou just need to find out what kind of voicing you want. What head are you playing through, and do you want more midrangy or bass? In my expirence so far the higher the wattage and bigger voice coil the less speaker distortion.
