Need suggestion...

Got a superstrat that was icepicky with a FRED, would be the same with a demon. Using a CC which is sweet, but want to get a less PAF more modern sound. WOndering where to go for:

- tighter cleaner bottom
- some mids for good drive with distortion
- highs not icepicky

High output is NOT needed, in fact the CC is a bit over the top for my main amp.

Tried a Breed neck & a PATB Saraceno, which were ****ed close but just a bit too shrill, just looking for something a bit more middy & smoother highs than those. Suggestions?

more mids and tight lows? i'd say go for a paf-wind and stick an a8 magnet in it. a paf wind usually is already tight sounding, and the alnico 8 has a tight low end, tons of mids, with a chewy/bitey top end, no ice-pick to speak of. specifically either a 59 or pearly gates would be great for what you're looking for.

What spare PU's do you have now? An A8 magnet will give you strong mids, a tight low end, and a modest amount of treble, nowhere near ice pick. Lots of guys here like the C8. If you have a lower ohm PU, like a Fred or a PAF, you could try an A8 in that.

Dave, I've got a demon...the mids and high end I love...the low end isn't tight nor clean...based on the recommendations, I think I'm gonna go to an a8 magnet in my demon to tighten the low end. The demon isn't a high output pickup...I think it's not even as hot as your custom!

Wow that's a lot of folks chiming in about the A8. I'll have to pop one in the only extra pup I have around a beat up old PAF pro.
