Need suggestions on new HSS setup

I have CR neck, VR middle, JB in the bridge all with 250k pots. The tone controls are on the CR and JB. The CR is muddy. Don't like that. The VR is very clear, which I like, but I really don't need a crystal clear sound. I need a clear sound with some dirt on it and the VR is kind of thin sounding. Sounds kind of harsh or sterile. The JB sounds great with high gain, but I want clarity with lower gain settings and it's too hot for that. Doesn't match well with the other pickups either. This is an alder strat with a maple neck by the way.

I'm thinking maybe a Pearly Gates in the bridge for more clarity and a lower output. Something PAF-ish because I haven't tried that output level. I don't know what to do with the pots and the other two pickups.

for the bridge, i think your going in the right direction. as for the vintage and cool rails, have you ever thought of just switching them around? since the vr is lower output than the cool rails(iirc) it should have more clarity in the neck, whereas the cool rails should have a bit more grit and in the middle pos.

Swapping the VR and CR would help a bit, or you could also go with another CR in the mid, install 500k pots, and install a PATB-3 in the bridge.
