hye joelap.....the differnce in volume between 50 and 100 watts is not enough for humans to be able to perceive (somethin like 2 or 3db....).......... so theres not really any differnce volume wise between a 50 and 100 watt, unless you want more clean headroom which the 100 will have......also 100 watters seem to have more grunt and punch....while 50s distort easier and compress for better lead tones

my basic point, your not gonna really hear any volume differnt between a mig50 and a mig100........ if any of you sonic gurus are out there, correct me if im wrong lol

You're right Flank, the 100 won't be much louder than a 50, but the 100 will produce more heaedroom for cleans and will definately have more authority on the bass frequencies than a 50.

Townshend liked em because they were LOUD lol. I use older Marshall's, and yeah, I give them a ' check up ' every now and then. Not because they aren't reliable, more like ' preventitive maintenance '. Really, you should do this regularly with all your gear, especially if you depend on it for a paycheck......

Totally agree - I get tubes, bias and general check over by my tech once a year...

My friend's Mig 100 makes me think of an old JCM800 with a tighter botom and a touch more sparkle (it runs on 6L6's). Its a LOUD amp thrrough a Marshall 4x10" sealed back cab.

I'd agree with that - I found the couple I played through reminded me of a cross between a Marshall and a Hiwatt - bearing in mind that the sound quality - whilst very good for the money - wasn't up there with a DR103 or a 1959!!!!

I need more wattage than 50 or 60 watts... I'd have to go with the mig 100 to compete with the singer and bassist in my band (im sure most of you have heard the problems ive described perviously lol)

Trust me - 50 tube watts is PLENTY loud enough for ANY singer and bass player...!!

It would seem that way... but I'm running a MArshall AVT 50 head and 412 cab and I'm the quietest person in the band! I've got the gain cranked and volume on 9 and I'm lost in the mix... mids are cranked too.

It would seem that way... but I'm running a MArshall AVT 50 head and 412 cab and I'm the quietest person in the band! I've got the gain cranked and volume on 9 and I'm lost in the mix... mids are cranked too.

50 watts AVT is probably around 15 tube watts equivalent - give or take a bit. Solid state is NOWHERE near as loud for the same wattage as tube (as a rule of thumb multiply by 2.5 - so 100 tube watts = 250 solid state watts - hence why the new solid state amp heads (Mode 4's etc) are usually 300 watts...)

Mode 4's are SS? I thought they were tube, now I'm not impressed by them...uff. Anyway, I'll either get a Sovtek Mig-50 or a Kustom Quad 100 head.
