Need urgent help with Duncan Ant. P90s !!

... please help me out on this one.
This month I sold an Epi casino on ebay that I upgraded with Antiquity P90s I bought myself in the USA (still have the tags and boxes).
Now I receive an email from the buyer that the pickups are Chinese fakes since they are not branded, they'd only have a sticker with a number on them and they'd hum alot. He even told me that a guitar shop confirmed that the pickups can't be Antiquities because they are unbranded.

As far as I know these only have the sticker with a serial number (which matches the number on my tags), the signature and nothing else on the baseplate ...and yes, of course they hum, they are single coils ... am I wrong???

Anyone have a picture of a Duncan Ant. baseplate

every Ant i have had is exactly as you say, no Duncan markings....just a little white sticker and sig....and of course they hum, there single coils!

there's nothing wrong or fake about them

I am the buyer of the Casino mentioned in the above thread, does anyone have a picture of what the antiquities should look like under there pickup cover. In particular the underside and how the wires come out of the pickup etc.As well as any close ups of the pick up covers themselves.

I'm an extremely reasonable man, I like to resolve problems amicably. There could be many reasons why the guitar sounds like it does.

And to clarify, I really don't have a problem with a Humm.

Rough deal man. You shouldn't have too much trouble confirming that they are real ants though, especially with the authorities we have lurking about here.

Hey, yes it seesm like a cool place ...found lots of interesting stuff. I really hope this problem solves smooth and easily for us both.:beerchug: Now I think we can be pretty sure that these are indeed Antiquities and that the hum must be a different problem caused by the shipping of the guitar. I don't know how properly the pickups were installed since I didn't wired them myself. A buddy did - killing time while waiting in a recording session. Maybe he was a bit sloppy and an earthing came loose now. I never had that problem before, actually bought that guitar just for the recording to get a cool electro/acoustic tone, the hum was normal and the Ant. sounded great. If not for this "problem" I think the buyer got a great deal on this guitar since he got a 2005 model Epi upgraded with USA parts (Ant. /Bigsby/KLusons/Allparts) even aged lightly for a nice patina - and for the same money he'd get a new one with all Asian parts. I really hope the reason for the "bad" hum will be found so that he can enjoy the guitar. I'm pretty proud of my ebay feedback since there were lots of hi-end deals ($2000+ amp and guitars)envolved and people of complain about this and that afterwards. I could not afford to loose it selling fake Duncans ( he he who would ..one could fake PAFs and get away with it)

I'm stomach tells me that Mr Bluesbopper is not lying, I try to go with my stomach on most things, but I find it hard to make a call when one person is telling me one thing and someone else is telling me another.

I'll describe the P-90's in as much detail as I can and maybe forum users can get back to me:

These are the dogear antiquitys :

Covers

- Black plastic, slightly dulled shine, similiar to an old fashioned plastic, like early bakelite derived plastics, brittle as apose to soft.
- the pins are screw heads and are aged.
- the Neck pickup cover is moulded lower than the bridge pickup cover

Pickup trays

- The pickup sits in a thin metal pickup tray.

The top of the pickup is shiny black plastic, as is the bottom.

The coil is wrapped in what I would describe as a rubbery plasticy material similar to the material used on some speaker cones.

The bottom of the Pickups have a sticker with an 8 digit number printed on it and is signed 'seymour'

The bridge pickup also has as small sticker with the word bridge printed on it.

Apart from various noises which I believe are earthing problems caused when the guitar was posted, the guitar sounds very good, I would describe the sound as being warm with very little harshness, lots of mid in the rhythm position, and drive in the treble position. In general what I would describe as air.

My no.1 Amp is a mid sixties English Selmer Thunderbird Twin Thirty, with the original G12's. (all valve 2x12 combo)

Through this amp I would describe the guitar as sounding very much like some of the resent Wilco recordings I have heard, with the reverb on it is very similar to the guitar sound on Neil Young's round and round,

My no.2 Amp is a mid/late sixties American Silverface Fender Bassman 50 (all valve 2 x 12 combo)

Through this amp the guitar is still rock solid but with a bit more drive, still lots of mid sounds chunky similar to alot of contemporary retro bands, similar to the sound of bands like the Zutons etc.

My no.3 Amp is my pignose, I'd describe this as sounding much cleaner, and noticably alot less hum (I like the hum though)

Through this I'd describe the sound as being very Beatlesy, easy to get crunch, the guitar is very responsive to sudden high levels of attack, very organic, high gain frenzies when your bombarding the fretboard with notes sound very good at this setting.

I would describe the guitar overall as having lots of give.

FWIW, every antiquity I have even seen was not branded...those sound like real Antiquity's to me...2 questions, where were the pickups bought new at and can one of you guys post a picture?

those are antiquitys alright.

cool selmer. ive played thru a zodiac twin 30 quite a bit, love the push buttons and the blinking eye. a different tone than most other amps but very sweet

Hey, deny, hope ypou'll get that hum problem solved. That Selmer is a killer. I had a Treble'n'Bass head with 2x12 can ca. 1964..wish I'd kept it...whta a killer amp that was !!!!

my antiquities only have the sticker and no markings, they're singlecoils..

i think theman's guitar shop needs to be a bit more careful with it's statements i have production duncans with no logo on the back or front.. it's a relatively recent thing!

Just as another confirm it sounds like you have SD Antiquities to me as well.
