need wiring help for my project

ok, 3 single coils vintage style (not SD's). 1 volume and 1 tone and a fender style switch. I could wire it like a strat but I want the neck & bridge combo like a tele too.
I'm thinking of wiring it like a tele with a 3-way switch and adding an on/off switch for the middle pu. This seems the least complicated way for me, but I"m no expert. The switch could be a micro toggle or a push-pull on one of the pots.
This would give both strat and tele combinations with the flick of a switch.
Am I correct with this or going in the wrong direction? Please advise.

Hey Rob; I'm doing this in two different ways. On the Strat in my sig, I've done exactly what you're describing. I'm using the first two lugs of the 5-way for the neck and bridge, and have the middle connected to an external DPDT switch that sits in the place of the second tone control. My middle pup is tapped, so I can select either mode. By moving the 5-way all the way back, the neck and bridge are off, and I can use the middle by itself. Or, I can put it in the #2 position and have all three.

On my Genny, which is an HSS, I have simply reversed the neck and middle hot wires so that my 5-way goes:

1. middle
2. neck and middle
3. neck
4. neck and bridge
5. bridge

So I've traded the neck/bridge position for the middle/bridge position.

They're both good options but I lean towards liking the Genny a little better, just because all modes are on one switch. Just feels a bit more natural.
But they both work great.

Thanks Artie, I like your idea on your Genny; but I use the bridge/middle sound alot. so maybe the seperate switch is the way to go. The middle pu is RWRP. Should I move it to the neck for hum cancelling in the neck/bridge position?

That part I'm not sure of. Mine is RWRP also, and I've left it in the middle with no problems. But that could just be my environment.

btw - On the Genny mod, you can just as easily switch the bridge and middle instead. That will give you this:

1. neck
2. neck and bridge
3. bridge
4. middle and bridge
5. middle.

Your just trading the neck/middle for the bridge/middle. Of course, if you like that sound too, then the external switch is the way to go. ;)

No problem. I've done this on my Strat and it's great. The sound of the neck and bridge pickups on together sounds great.
