Yessir, I never DON'T use the Maxon. It makes the tone so much better.

I'm getting a 57 and possible a nice Mackie mixer in the comming weeks, as well as proper isolation/room treatment, so watch out for even better clips in about 2 weeks!
I would love to hear the same riff with and without the 808 at same gain amount (so more gain dailed in without the OD). Maybe you wanna make me a small clip? :) Just a simple riff

When I get the rest of my crap in, I'll be sure to do the A/B Comparison. Basically, you take this tone and make it muddier and buzzier.

Well. how it will sound it an original boss super overdriveinstead of the maxom!?

I used to have an SD-1, I ran it with my XXX. Compared to the Tubescreamers (Even a stock TS-9 will work, but I'd mod it to 808 specs), the SD-1 sounds very very solid state.

Re: Nevermore - Engines Of Hate, with a Surprise!

Before you go out and buy an SM57 I just wanted to let you know that I've heard the only difference between the 57 & 58 is the windscreen on the 58. I've got them both and while the 57 doesn't sound good for vocals, I can't hear a difference on recordings where I've used the 58 with the windscreen removed for an amp. You can probably find plenty of info on the web.

Now I've never checked that out for myself but I've even seen that refered to in this forum. I first heard this about twenty years ago so I just bought the 58.

Re: Nevermore - Engines Of Hate, with a Surprise!

I've heard that before, as well, but there is one difference, actually.

The SM57 has a range of 40hz-15khz, while the SM58 has a range of 50hz-15khz. Not a huge difference, but I've notcied it on some that I've done. It depends on what speakers you're listening to. On commercial speakers, they'll sound identical, but so will most mic pre's, no matter the cost.

Re: Nevermore - Engines Of Hate, with a Surprise!

Aaaaaaaaaaaah. I never noticed that. I'll bet when I start recording with the stuff I have now I'll notice though. Oh well, wanted to save you $$$ and instead you schooled me. I thank you!

That would be great :)
How does the Maxon compare to a (modded) TS-9?
