New Amp And Questions

Re: New Amp And Questions

It could have been a dirty input jack that wasn't shorting like it was supposed to when there was nothing plugged in. Might have blown some dirty out of the jacks.

Re: New Amp And Questions

I had one of the early ones back in the 90's. I ran it through a Bandmaster cab. I had to sell it....divorce and it trashed my hearing:laugh2: (power brake was introduced 2 months after i sold it. ) Anyone who has any qualms about PCB amps should have heard this thing. All the magical things you hear about Marshalls in one little box. And that was with stock Roooshin 6L6's...they didn't offer the KT66's then because nobody was making a decent set. See if you can find the article about AC/DC's quest to find Mullards when they had their JTM 45 and 45/100's rebuilt to record Ballbreaker. i would have loved to have heard mine with a decent set of NOS 66's, but they were nowhere to be found, and if you did find them, they were priced about like the hyper-expensive new Richardson KT88's that went into the McIntosh 275 reissue stereo amps. Those would have cost $600 plus if you wanted to retube an Ampeg SVT:chairfall

Re: New Amp And Questions

find some NOS mullards or comparable old tubesif you can, prefereably someone who caters to the high end audio market........i had mullards in my stereo preamp, but one of them went buzzy on me...sucked....i have GT's in it right now and there is a difference....subtle, but there. Mine was the same vintage as yours.....it was a floor model that i picked up from Thouroughbred in Tampa back in 96. $600 with warranty. I bought it upon recommendation from one of the techs at SD......he kinda said that if i could afford it, i must buy it.....and if i couldn't, then rob a liquor store..lol Monster amp

RFT ECC83s....a little more expensive ($25.00 ea.) but excellent in that amp:bigthumb:
