New Amp day. Lots of Hi-Res photos/ not 56k friendly. Roaster content

What was Mesa Boogie thinking when they designed the Roadster? I mean this thing has more bells and whistle than anything I've ever touched... including the long and short head Mark IVs that I've owned.

6L6 to EL34 switchable
100 to 50 watt switchable
reverb
gobbs of channels, and loads of buttons
Footswitch wider than a doorway
More buttons than a woman...

I don't know how to fully opperate this beast yet, it'll take some time. But it'll fun learning.

I suppose this is what prompted Marshall to come out with the JVM.

i love the black diamond part on the front of the amp. too many knobs though. i would never be able to figure that thing out. whats the difference between this and the ROADKING?

roadking lets you have 4 6L6's and 2 EL34's installed at one time. The roadster, you get either 4 6L6's or 4 EL34's.

that and they revoiced one or 2 of the channels.

roadking lets you have 4 6L6's and 2 EL34's installed at one time.

You need this for an effective blast radius of 25 miles, while the Roadster gives you a paltry 15-mile blast radius. Still, the fallout will getcha either way.

Roadster: 2x6L6 or 4x6L6 modes, assingable by channel.
Roadking: 2x6L6, 2xEL34, 4x6L6, 2xEL34 + 2x6L6, 2xEL34 + 4x6L6, assignable by channel.

Roadster: No cabinet selection.
Roadking: Cabinet selection that lets you assign your choice of two different cabs per channel. For example, you could set the clean channel to go to a open back 2x12, the rhythm channel to go to a closed back 4x12, and a lead channel to go to both cabs.

Roadster: 1 series effects loop, assingable by channel.
Roadking: 2 series effects loops, assingable by channel.

even though mine is for sale, i love everything about this amp - i just need something better suited to my purposes (and my nagging band mates) ...

it really wasnt hard for me to get it dialed in ... yes, there are a GOB of options, but once you learn the basics for one channel, it isnt hard to figure it out to set up the other 3 ... very well written manual walks you through it too ...

screamingdaisy has it nailed on the differences ... its funny how you come to a point where you get ch 1 dialed in and loving the 6L6s and an open back cab for amazing cleans ... then you move to ch 2 - brit mode - and say to yourself "dang, if i could only have EL-34s and be able to switch to a closed back cab on this channel " .. then you realize why they make the roadking

The feature you mention above is exactly why I keep looking at the Roadking.

yup

then i realised that i'd have to lug around another cab and pay an extra $500+ for the pleasure ... then i decided that i could make do :D ..

and i'll tell ya, in a full band setting, the difference isnt so great as to make the experience unpleasant ... well, for me .... they all gripe that i am too loud :D

That is a sick amp! I love it. Those Roadkings are really sweet. Congratulations! We need clips man. You know threads like these are worthless without the sounds.

Get it dude, I'm SO glad I sprang for it over a Dual Recto at the time. Of course at the time they didn't have the Roadster yet, that may have been a tougher decision.

Sweet amp, SS, looks great! :)

Like tone4days mentioned, these amps are not hard to dial in despite all the knobs. My girlfriend said that there were too many knobs and I'd get discouraged. Nope. I love playing with knobs!!!! LOL

What's the price on those?
I sat down with a Road King vs the new Fender 5150III for a couple of hours in a local shop and thought the 5150 killed the RK in every head to head crunch tone I was able to pull. I did give the nod in the cleans to the Mesa though. I'm just curious how they stack up in price as the 5150III is $2000.

That is a nutty amount of options... especially for a player who uses a single cannel MV Marshall. Still, they look live very well thought out. I like the look of that, a lot.

I love monsterous amounts of knobs ^^ that's why i'm eyeballin' the Engl SE and Invader
Great amp for sure, pitty that they are so ungodly pricey here in germany.

I suspect an A/B with a Stiletto may be more appropriate for the 5150 III. The Road King's channel 3 and 4 are pure Recto, much different animal.

The Rectifier isn't really a crunch amp....

a local band that is doing well used those for a while..... they had trouble with one of them but they are still using the others

i'd love one of these!!!
