X-Files Duckbucker
A little over a month ago I posted couple of threads about choosing an amp. Well, I bought one and have spent the last month putting it through its paces and I'm loving it!
It's a Carvin V3 head!
So It comes with reverb now and has a power switch for 100/50/25 watts. 3 Channels and more knobs switches than the space shuttle! Great range of tones too. I'm still learning how to dial in things very specifically, but I started getting the tone I was looking for on day one. I think if you are more of a plug-n-play,"less is more" guy this is not your amp. I remember formula73 said all the switches/knobs made him feel like a failed rocket scientist, and I get it. But for tone tweakers like me who love to mess around to keep dialing in closer to perfection, this is a good amp. Great cleans too. Best clean tone since Fender. The distorted channels are awesome. I can get some thicker distortions and some great cutting, edgy, metal tones too.
Also, the master EQ isn't a normal EQ. The High and Low knob are boosts (can be quite helpful) and the Mid-Cut shapes the mids like a tone knob on a pedal (really fun to f*ck around with). If the Mid-Cut is on "0" it's off. I usually leave all three off, but I'm still messing with them to see what kinda sounds I can get. Loving it!
I want to thank a few guys who gave me really helpful information in choosing this: mwalluk, formula73, metalmachine, jmh151, and especially rammer69. Your input was really helpful.
To mwalluk: the Legacy 3 was a near miss, but I liked the V3's leaner sound a little more. BUT! My next amp is definitely the Legacy 3. Good tone.
To jmh151: I did play the EVH 5150 III 50 watts. Good tone, but not what I was looking for. Still, I can't fault the suggestion. :bigok:
