WOW....this thing is the Big Boys Univalve !

It showed up with the reverb broken, but aside from that, it's plain ol' BADA$$ !!!

Lots of tweaking & tinkering to do & you name the sound, it'll do it....so far !!!

:D

Re: New Amp In The House....

NICE!!!! :fing2:

London Power invented that whole power scaling thing, so I'm sure you can get killer tones at bedroom volumes with that. I never realized they made their own amps - you've got to post clips Terry! :)

Re: New Amp In The House....

Wow, that looks really interesting. Congrats!

Re: New Amp In The House....

Ah man, I've been reading a lot about this beast lately, especially due to the power-scaling... That is one sweet amp right there.

Congrats!

Re: New Amp In The House....

looks interesting, Terry

I would've thought Power Scaling was for amps with more power ... I'd probably want ALL of those 10 watts. :)

I am curious about his amps though, since he's written the most technical amp books around.

Curly, this one is actually 50watts. The newer model is 10w & I'm with you...almost a "why bother" kinda deal.

It'll take KT88s, KT66s, 6550s, EL34s, 6L6s, 6V6s etc etc......right now I have it running 2 new Tung Sol 6V6 reissues & got it dialed in like a Deluxe Reverb (minus the verb....for now :( ). SMOKIN' HOT !!!

Terry, is that the one from The Gear Page? Looks really interesting. Congrats!
YUP....sold that PRS so I could snatch this up

OH...and as far as I can tell, there is no attenuator that can touch Power Scaling. It works & it is friggin' SCHWEET !!!!!

I might have to set the Edana up with it, it's that ****ed good !!!!

Re: New Amp In The House....

Very cool...looks a tad more complex that anything I need but if you cn work it then go for it!

I'll say this too...so far Power Scaling has blown me away...I've triued it on a few amps and so far it is the real deal!

Re: New Amp In The House....

OH...another cool thing with this amp: you can run an A/B switch thru the fx loop & use it to switch from low gain & high gain !!!!! :D

I know, lots of toggles & switches & knobs...OH MY !!!! :eek2:

But they let you dial in tons of different tones....it's non stop for the tweaker :D

This is my first shot at Power Scaling & it is the real deal. Just excellent ripping tone at below tv levels. I was tearing it up & yelling at the kids to hold it down !!!!! :laugh2:

NICE!

I've tried a few Reinhardt with power scaling as well as a Suhr...I liked it a lot...

Re: New Amp In The House....

I'm gonna bring it to my local guy to see if he can "over the counter" give me an idea of what's wrong with the reverb. I really don't wanna have to ship it to Canada !!!!

Can't wait to try it with some NOS RFT EL34s & RFT ECC83s I've got. See how old school Marshall it can get

The only down side I've found is it's very unforgiving in that you can hear every fault in your playing, like a Hiwatt.

OH...and there are 18 screws that hold the top on. A bit of a pain if you wanna play Tube Doctor :D

Re: New Amp In The House....

Terry....do you still have the Overbuilt Amp? How do they compare?

Well, I've had 3 Overbuilts, 2 of which were EL84 based amps.

Fiscus = 30w 4 EL84s, 2 6SN7s, 3 12AX7s...very clean & Vox-meets-Fender-meets Matchless

Clubber = 30w 4 EL84, 2 12AX7s, 1 EF86, 1 GZ34....basically the 2 channels of the Matchless HC-30 combined....Vox-meets-Marshall-meets Matchless

Barn Boss = 25w 2 KT66s, 3 6SL7s, 2 12AX7s, GZ34....very HUGE sounding 25watts! Very clean to nice break up, like a Tweed meets Blackface meets Matchless. Tranny on it was HUGE !!!!

SO...as you can see, this London Power is a completely different beast.

I've only tried the 6V6s so far & it pretty much nails a Fender Deluxe tone. I have it set right at that sweet spot of being on the verge of break up & it loves my Tele & P90s !!!! :D

I spoke to Kevin O'Connor (London Power guru) & he gave me some things to do to check the reverb. It SOUNDS like the tank may be damaged...HOPEFULLY....so that'll be an easy enough fix :fingersx:

Re: New Amp In The House....

Scott, have you ever tried or considerred installing a power scaling unit in your amps ???

Re: New Amp In The House....

What a great amp-and a great selection of prior amps, too! Do you mind if I ask why you sold the Clubber?

Re: New Amp In The House....

ohhhh that looks pretty. I got my Vox ac15 ccx back today.....hmmm...i can get very fendery sounds....and ALOUT of growl..very responsive....and about 1/10 as impressive as your beast!
