Have you ever gotten that one piece of gear you've always wanted & it turns out to be a dud or atleast not what you expected ?

LADIES & GENTLEMEN, I HAVE HEARD THE VOICE OF GOD...IN MY LIVING ROOM:

The 1993 Matchless DC-30

OH

:eek2:

EXACTLY the amp & tone I've searched for forever...I wish I would've bit the bullet a long time ago & would've saved LOTS !

Got it today, played for about 3 hours straight & still have that sh!t-eating grin.

Time for Giddy Boy to go to bed....just thought I'd share !!!!!!!! :beerchug:

Re: New Amp !

Wow....that is a primo amp, and a hugely collectible year and color.

I've been a fan of Matchless amps since the very beginning, and have met all the original owners many times. Their chassis' are a work of art, especially the DC-30.

I love my 97 Chieftain 2-12, and there's times I think about cashing out of it, then I plug into it again and am reminded to make it a lifetime keeper if I can. So quiet at idle, and such a roomfilling tone that comes out of it. Low notes sound like a big grand piano...perfect clarity and depth.

Re: New Amp !

You never know.....helping the FedEx guy carry it up 3 flights of stairs wore me out.

I can only imagine a few trips by myself :D

Re: New Amp !

Jonesy....I NOW know exactly what you meant when you spoke so highly of the Chieftain.

It's been a while since I went thru the Refreshments catalog, but I hacked my way thru today & it was GLORIOUS !!!! ;)

Re: New Amp !

that looks beautiful! you also make a good point (that i have rarely followed, idiot that i am) - sometimes it's better to wait and save rather than just buy something/anything.

Re: New Amp !

hey, doesn't Sonny Landreth have a green DC-30?

anyway, great amps ... some of the most beautiful crunchy type cleans, and they sound great cranked too.

Re: New Amp !

The point to point wiring takes a long time to do by hand, which accounts for much of the cost. Even the ends of every component are covered in tubing. Notice the light bulbs positioned in there, to light up the chassis script. They don't even interfere with the circuit. Then a plug lights up the light box behind the MATCHLESS logo. It looks so cool on a dark stage!

Re: New Amp !

It's pretty rare to see any 90's Sampson era Matchless amp in museum condition. You and I both have prime examples of the amps that kicked off the whole 90's boutique amp craze.

Having a road case for it is a good idea, since Matchless amps are covered in regular vinyl. It isn't a roadworthy covering at all. It scuffs and tears extremely easily......that's why it's so rare to see minty ones.

Re: New Amp !

Re: New Amp !

Thanks again guys! :beerchug:

T4D, thanks Bro. The little things are really helping & being able to wrap or lose myself in some music has been enlightening & dare I say it....making me HAPPY !!!

The thing that sucks is I JUST traded an amp for a Badcat HotCat, which is pretty nice. Then this one appeared & although I felt bad about semi-lowballing the guy, I knew I had to have it.

SO...after the holidays, the Hottie will probably have to leave. I've got Christmas squared away, so we'll see. Until then, I've got a whole lotta tone going on in my 3rd floor 2/2 :D

Re: New Amp !

what is the size, weight, speaker configuration of your badcat hot cat? is it the 30 or 15? with reverb or not? ...

Re: New Amp !

The Hotcat is a head......about 50lbs at that !

The tranny is GIGANTIC, like all the Matchless/Overbuilt/Badcat stuff.

This DC30 in the ATA case was 115lbs !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared:
