New Amp

I need a new amp, but don't know what to get. Focusing on practice amps right now. Any suggestions on amps that can give me nice, distorted rock tones would be appreciated.

Re: New Amp

I was looking at an Orange... sounded nice, and wasn't too much. I need something relatively small, and not too loud.

Re: New Amp

Check out the Special 6 Ultra. It takes a little getting used to because of the way the controls are set up but after spending some time with it I'm quite happy with mine. For the price and being PTP it's hard to beat.

Re: New Amp

I like the Vox Night Train that Trevorus traded to my buddy AJ. You'll need a speaker for it though. AJ's using a 2 x 10 cab with inexpensice Jensen C10Q's that I rewired to 16 ohms for him. Sounds killer for rocking out at home.

Me? I'd get a Fender Pro Junior like Jeff Beck is using two of.

Re: New Amp

what's your budget? looking for affordable or does the price not matter? an affordable giggable tube amp that i like is the bugera v22. the jet city 20 will be similar. there's better amps in the world but for a lot more money..
what kind of music are you looking to play? those two amps are best for 60s/70s rock i think...

Re: New Amp

I don't really have a budget right now, but cost and affordability is definitely a factor. I mostly play punk rock and heavy metal with some blues influences.

Re: New Amp

Bro, you're going need to stop giving vague answers. If you want some good, specific advice/suggestions then we need some detailed information.

I don't really have a budget right now, but cost and affordability is definitely a factor. I mostly play punk rock and heavy metal with some blues influences.

This really doesn't tell us much, if anything at all. This statement will lead to answers like these..... "orange, bulgera, marshall, vht, jet city, blackstar, etc" we're just spitting out brands, not knowing if they would fit your needs.

Instead, something like this would go along way to determine your overall need....

My budget is $500 US dollars.

I mainly play punk and metal (think Pennywise meets Metallica)

I used to own a Marshall MG (which I got rid of cuz i'm not a fan of.....)

I'm mainly looking for a practice amp, not looking for an amp that's gig capable or jam capable, just bedroom.

I'm looking for an amp that gives me an ORGANIC, DYNAMIC feel. It has to sustain for hours, it needs to give that midrange marshall crunch, but still give me that MESA chugga chugga thump. I don't play much clean, so thats a non factor.

I use humbucker equiped guitars.

I use pedals.

Suggest Solid State or Tube only......

Something like that will go along way to determine YOUR needs and weed out bad suggestions. We don't know you, your style or your likes, but we would like to.

Re: New Amp

You could buy my Traynor YCV40. 40 watt, all tube. Mine has an Eminence C-Rex speaker (kicks ass). I use it at home and have played a couple gigs with it. It is a great amp that will work for about any genre of music, although if you want heavy metal, you'll need an Overdrive pedal of some kind. I have used a couple different ones with great results.

I'm in MN, too, so no shipping involved. If you're close enough, you can try out the amp before buying. I'd like to get $400 for the amp.

The only reason I might sell it is that I'm jonesing for a Vox AC15 right now!

Re: New Amp

I'll try to get as specific as I can:

Don't have a solid budget, but would like to spend under $500, US money.

I play Ramones-meets-Metallica-with-some-Chuck Berry-thrown-in-there style punk metal.

Just have a Fender amp right now (don't know the model), but it doesn't work.

I play an H/S/S Squier Stratocaster and H/H Epiphone SG.

Just looking at practice amps right now, and would like something that can handle small gigs. Don't use any pedals. Would like it if can handle lots of distortion, but also give me some cleaner blues tones.

That enough to work with?

Thank you. I wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything, just trying to help weed out amps that won't work for you.

That being said....

Are you ok with USED gear or prefer that it's brand new?

Are you looking for a combo or head and cab?

I know you said you don't use pedals, but if you did decide to go that route, you can find a TON of Fender Hotrod/Devilles/Deluxes/Blues on the used market.

If you want uber gain amounts, JetCity would give you that and more. They're pretty cheap new and used I'm sure you could find a 50 watt combo for nothing. Useable clean, great SOLDANO like liquid distortion.

Carvin legacy series I are selling used on EBAY (both head and combo) for about $500. This would def. get you there, plus 100 watt all tube amp that will be more than gig, recording, capable.

Marshall DSLs are selling for around your budget as well.

Blackstar HT's are good bet too.

If I were you I would seriously look into either a used Marshall DSL, Carvin Legacy or JetCIty. This would work for your gig, recording and bedroom jamming.

Re: New Amp

There's a ton of cheap used Vox Valvetronix amps on Craigslist. It's probably perfect for your situation and well within your budget.

Guitar Center has been selling a lot of used amps really cheap lately. Go try some.

Re: New Amp

Vyper modeling amp till you settle on a style
The 15 watt version is less than $100 new
The 30 watt is enough for a small gig
