New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

Just got a new track I did up on the Atomic Amps MySpace page. It's called EuphoriaNoMore4Ya and all the guitars were tracked using the 50w 112 using 5 different PODxt patches and 4 different guitars to show off some versatility. I used a Variax 700 Bass into a Red Iron Amps Buffer2. Special thanks to my drummer Ryan Coyle for throwin' down some sticks n' skins to it. Hope ya dig it!

Since this is a Duncan site props are in order, so I wanna add the lite crunch and solo parts used a Lil 59 in my Telecaster Special.

They sound decent....but man I wish folks would be more inclined to post clips of modelers that lean more towards the vintage side of things.

To me, that's the entire appeal of modeling amps.

that lil '59 sounds great...i gotta get one for my tele!!

Re: New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

Thnaks guys!

Hey Skarekrough most of the amp models I used are vintage ones. Here's the breakdown...

The Rhythm Light Crunch uses the Tweed Bassman model and 4x12 Greenback cab sim and the guitar was a Telecaster Special using a Duncan Lil 59 bridge pickup. The Rhythm Clean used the Blackface Deluxe model and 4x12 Greenback cab sim and the guitar was a modded Squier 51 using a GFS Liverpool bridge pickup in single coil mode. The Rhythm Heavy Distortion uses the Dual Rectifier model and 4x12 V30 cab sim and the guitar was a Les Paul Std using a stock bridge pickup. The Slide Guitar Crunch uses the '52 Small Tweed Deluxe model and 4x12 Greenback cab sim and the guitar was a Les Paul Special using a stock P-100 bridge pickup. The Solo Guitar used the Jumped Plexi model and 4x12 Greenback cab sim and the guitar was a Telecaster Special using a Duncan Lil 59 bridge pickup.

Personally I like the 41x12 Greenback cab sim more than a lot of others for my tastes. It allows me more tonal flexibility on many models.

Agreed. I prefer the 25w GB sim vs the 20w GB sim, but they both are the best there are in the POD XT/L, IMO. The 800 sounds absolutely brilliant though them. When you run the Bassman through the GB25s it sounds far more like a Plexi than the "regular" plexi models. I basically used the 25Gbs for all my patches too.

That said, how do you feel the 50w Atomic compares to the orginal (18w)? Tonally, and is the addition of the MV a plus?

I'm seriously thinking of going back to an Atomic and POD XTL (or a Flex III).

Re: New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

Jeff, I used the 18w Atomics (2 of em) for over 2 years. Tonally they are similar, but with the 50w the cleans are better at louder volumes. I can really push it all more. But for an EL84 amp the 18w does have something special too. As far as the Master Vol, I run it wide open anyway 95% of the time. I guess for cases where you have to really bring the level down it helps. I run 2 50w 112's now the majority of the time. Those tones on my tract are exactly as I hear them in teh room. Works killer!

Re: New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

Thank You. I practically had to give away my Atomic 18w, but even though the Vox VTs are more "tube-like", I miss the better (correct) voicings I got with the XTL/Atomic. The 800 model through the GB25s is the closest thing in modelling I've had to the tone I got with my Marshalls way back when.

Sounds like I'd be just as well off with another 18w vs. the 50 (I don't gig, this is a bedroom setup for me)

Re: New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

Both sound great! Hey I never had any trouble being heard live with the 2 18watters I played live. One should serve you fine indoors.

Re: New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

That sounds very good. I would need to be in a room with one to really make a judgement though.

I love my Roland Cube 60 keyboard amp for the Pod XT, but I was thinking that someday it would be great to have a stereo rig with an Atomic 112-50 on one side and the Roland on the other. I would also probably want a stereo graph EQ in there to fine tune things.

Re: New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

ratherdashing, I can tell you it sounded 99% like that in the room. That's the beauty of it! I use 2 50-112's and no EQing is really needed. Live and precense sounding...

Re: New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

It's the pricing...that's what kills me on them. I'd love to have a nice grab and carry solution but at 4 bills for the 18 watter it puts me over $700 when I include the price of the PodXT.

Until I find some major issues with the Crate PowerBlock I kinda have to go that path....

....unless you want to ship one to Massachusetts for a very capable writer and musician to evaluate for the round of auditions he has coming up!

I swear...if I don't return it I'll pay for it!!!

Re: New Atomic Amps 50w 112 Clip!!!

If I didn't use it everyday... it could have been a possibility! (:->>>

Realistically the price of it is far less than an equivalent boutique amp. Besides I can't put a price on tone (a realistic price too) when it really is superior to everythign else I've tried.
