Sometimes, in a live mix, the best bass sound is with the EQ set flat. I've learned that from a few pros I've talked with. At times it's necessary for a little EQ adjustment but I always start out with it set flat.

No - I mean I really run two different basses, and adjust the EQ so that it compensates for the pickup volume differences and any really ugly boomy stuff, screechy highs, or whatever becomes offensive from one to the other.

I just haven't done that yet!

Is one active and one passive? If so, on the active bass, set the controls flat. I do that with my Sterling Ray4. Has volume, bass, and treble. Bass and treble start flat, the amp is flat and I adjust the controls on the bass as I need them. At first I was running everything wide open or flat and tweaking the EQ on the amp and then after some fiddling and advice, changed to what I do now. Much better control over the sound and sits better in the mix.

I picked up one of the Ampeg SCR-DI pedals recently and I’m really pleased with it - I’m using it on my bass board direct into a clean power amp and it does everything I want it to!

What Power amp???? I would love to do that, but can't find a little class D-ish thing ~500 watts that I like. Or whatever...

Our drummer is also a bass player, so I go into his Fender Rumble (800W, I think?) through the FX Return - completely bypassing the inbuilt preamp. Live I go into my Bose L1 (it has a subwoofer) - sounds great.
