Just picked up a used Jazz. It came with the SD Quarter Pounders

Love the sound of these pups and this bass!

Holy crap, you stole my bass! ;) The Quarter Pounders really help with the low B on the Jazz V, IMO.

Did you buy it new?

Do you remember any specs or description that might be interesting?

Re: New bass with Quarter Pounders!

No, I bought it used on eBay ~15 years ago. The Quarter Pounders are obviously aftermarket. The bridge is more sturdy than most MIM of the era, and it has Gotoh tuners. The official color is Midnight Wine. I'll be putting a new pickguard on mine shortly if it ever ships from WD. Stainless Steel strings help the low B as well... It looks like your LD is maybe a 2004? (Serial MZ4...)

Mine was my main gigging bass in college.

New pick guard is next.

It's 2006 with the little round emblem on the back of the headstock. As far as I have read my year didn't have anything else unique about it beyond a special gig bag which I don't have.

Re: New bass with Quarter Pounders!

Ah ok. I had a difficult time finding pickguards for this model, so that's why I did WD. I'll report back on the quality when it arrives.

Re: New bass with Quarter Pounders!

+1 for QPs; have had them for many years on my '76 P and my '87 MIJ Squier Jazz.

On the Squier I have a DPDT push-pull switch on the tone pot that switches from series to parallel. I also have this config on my MIM Jazz and my Warmoth. This opens up all sorts of tonal possibilities. Worth considering...

I've used Tony Dudzik (pickguardian) several times. Even did a custom for a Jazz Bass Special (which didn't come with a guard) and another custom for my Warmoth Tele Bass.

Re: New bass with Quarter Pounders!

I just ordered QPs for my Jazz. How do you like em?

Re: New bass with Quarter Pounders!

Personally, I love them. Great range of tones. For the record, I play with a pick and use roundwound strings (GHS Bass Boomers).

Re: New bass with Quarter Pounders!

To QP Jazz people: how do you prefer your volumes? Both dimed? Soloed? One down 15% to get rid of phase cancellation when the pots are dimed? Etc etc.

i like the sound with everything up but think it's fuller sounding backing the bridge off just a bit.

QP P Bass Person here (x2 in my BC RICH) - I back off one just a smidgen for this exact reason.
