Anyways, just arrived today. Super happy with the choice of the spruce top. I think its going to look pretty cool with an all natural finish. I shot these with my iphone inside so that explains the half assed quality. Ill get my wife to take some shots if we get some decent sun this weekend.

Think im going to use tru-oil and wet sanding ie slurry method for the finish. No stain as im pretty sure the tru-oil will darken it a tinge anyway.

I like it. Haven't seen spruce top on a Tele before. Love the belly cut...something more guitars should come with.

I like it! The color difference between the two woods should be very nice together. You will have to keep us updatedvon your progress with pics. What woods for the neck?

I will. The neck is flame maple on flame maple that i got from Tommy a few years ago. Super nice with a fairly hard clapton style V profile. Its not a tele headstock though, more PRSish.

First off, that is one of the most beautiful looking bodies I've seen. The spruce top looks amazing. Good to hear about the finish you're doing as it will enhance the beauty even more.

Yes, the tru oil will darken the finish.....how dark depends on how many coats you do. I did 11 coats on my chambered mahogany tele body from Tommy. I love the way it came out. Good luck and can't wait to see the 'finish'ed body!

Nice! Which pickups are you going with? Pickguard?

If it were mine, I'd want the spruce to look like a vintage Martin acoustic, 1 ply gloss black 5 hole pickguard, Jerry Donahue bridge, and either an SM-1n mini hum or Whole Lotta neck.

I can't wait to see this one finished.

No pickguard and its gonna have either a 59 or PG neck in chrome and a QP bridge. Im not big on traditional tele tones but i love the shape of the body. Im betting the tru-oil will color the spruce almost dead on vintage martin but even if it stays really light ill be more than happy. I might even prefer that.

I just ordered the tru-oil since you cant find it anywhere in stores around here. Amazon definitely rocks, 32oz bottle for 20 bucks (30 bucks from birchwood casey). So the finishing will begin sometime next week. Ill probably sand it down to 400 grit over the weekend so that its prepped and ready to go.

So i havent really posted here in a LONG time but i dug this kne out of the ground because im hopefully finally getting around to finishing this one. Holla at any of the “old timers” who remember me, lol

Its actually padauk. Weighs a hefty amount even with the tummy cut as some weight relief

I always wondered about that wood. Give your thoughts when the project is finished. I also thought that every Tele should have a contoured body. Normal ones cut into my ribs and my forearm.
