New Boss/fender Pedal

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

The Fender Deluxe pedal also acts as a tremolo and reverb pedal . . . that's a pretty sweet do-all piece of kit!

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

I bet those cold little circuit boards do a real good job of emulating those big tube amps too.

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

my guess is the people who buy it have never used the real things.

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

or they just... like the sound

pedals don't have to sound like amps to be useable

Amen to that. I think they'll probably be best used as an enhancement or a tone shaper or maybe even a cool gain stage, but not a full-on emulator/modeler.

You have to take into account what it was designed to do, and then what it CAN do.

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

First - a pedal that makes a sound you like is a good thing. Listen to them and decide for yourself.

But! A twin pedal through an amp will sound like anything but a twin! This idea was good right up to the point of putting it through another complete sonic landscape before it hit the speaker!!!!!!!

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

i have a very positive attitude toward modeling. On my Boss GT-Pro, there are amp models that say B-Man, and 'Calif Twin'...now I know what these mean- they are meant as a point of reference to get your sound started on that path.
However, these pedals were made in conjunction with Fender, and my problem with them is not that they aren't usable, or have good sounds...my problem is that just looking at it makes people think that they will sound like a Deluxe if they plug this pedal into their Marshall or Mesa. The design makes people think they will get a 'Twin' no matter what they plug into. This simply isn't true, and it is misleading to anyone who doesn't know much about the capabilities of the COSM sounds (mostly everyone). I am far from a purist, but I don't like this approach to marketing pedals.

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

Overdrive and Distortion pedals are a mixed bag. Do you want to add a little fuzz like a Tube Screamer or do you want a pedal that emulates a Marshall like the Guvnor? I had a Guvnor for a long time and it sounded exactly like the tone section on my pre-valvestate Marshall. The problem was that it dominated every amp you plugged it into rather than accent it.

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

I'm curious to check these pedals out, But I can't imagine them sounding remotely like the real thing? And if they do? Do I have a use for them? I already have Vintage Fender amps w/t verb & trem.:smokin: Once I get pasted the marketing ploy. They would have to provide versatility for me. I can't see how?

Even assuming that the amp simulation part of the pedal blows (which it definitely could - I've never played it) . . . I still think that it's pretty cool that you get a reverb simulation, distortion pedal, and tremolo simulation all in one pedal. I can't think of a better way to provide versatility . . .

I also don't think that these pedals are designed to be used with your vintage Fender amps. Of course the real thing is going to be better . . . however, if you've got a solid-state clean amp and you want to have a pedal for some bluesy stuff I'm sure that this would be great for that . . .

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

I listened at the samples clips, and they are not too bad ! (...depending on the price, though !)

If i sounds good enough when i test it for myself, i would not mind getting both (thats if i like both, and not just one of 'em), and give my lil' Blues Jr. a bit of extra voicings !

You still get some (very smart folks out there in guitar land) that thinks these pedals will make their 5150, or Diezels sound like a true vintage Bassman - i'll pray for them ;) - but for a single channel amp, like my BJr. it just might be the pedal that i've always been looking for !

And it that does'nt "do it for me", i can always fall back to the Toadworks Lil' Leo (or the brand new, "Leo Jr.") or the HAO Sole Pressure - both FANTASTIC sounding Bassman-voiced units !

Cheers
;)

Re: New Boss/fender Pedal

I'm sorry these pedals just smell like a FMIC board meeting where they brainstormed new ways to get money...the market is already fuuull of all kinds of OD and distortion pedals, and this one just has more EQ knobs, reverb and tremelo all in one box. Most multi-effect pedals i've tried do the digital destruction on my ears because they try to get all the sounds to be 'okay' while none of them really excel.

I dunno, if you REALLY like Fender and you want a distortion pedal to get that LEGENDARY FENDER DISTORTION (and don't most people hate their Fender's distortion channel?) i could see going for it but i mean...there are plenty of pedals that are known to smoke Boss pedals in terms of tone that don't seem like a shady marketing scheme.
