New Bridge Advice

Hey guys, I just have a brief question regarding trem bridges.

I have a (crappy) Licensed FR in my Dean right now, and I am thinking about swapping it out for an OFR. Before I do that I was wondering can a Kahler bridge fit in there?

I was thinking of getting one of the bridges that locks the baseplate so that you can drop tune it - I know Ibanez has the SynchroniZR bridge; anyone tried one of these yet??

Thanks for the info!

Re: New Bridge Advice

sometimes it is easier to get a different guitar then modding the heck out of one... But that being said a FRO may fit your guitar but it's hard to say over the net... it may be a Schaller style soft base floyd that may work better depending on where the posts are drilled... there is a slight difference in the posts postions and i've been finding a lot of the Floyd Copies are mounted more Schaller spec posts positions... but not always

What is the Radius of your guitars neck? If it is a 16 radius like a lot of modern guitars with cheaper floyd copies you may have a hard time setting a FRO or Schaller design Floyd on there.

i can't say a Kahler would be an easy fit...

Re: New Bridge Advice

If the posts are strangely positioned then just get a Gotoh.
It's IMO every bit as good as an OFR (arguably better actually) but most importantly, only the right knife is C shaped. The left one is straight (just like Wilkinson trems are) so that it can fit at virtually ANY post spacing ;)
I put it in my guitar (which also happens to have a 16" radius fretboard) and it works amazingly well.

Actually it was just yesterday I saw a Dimebag Explosion Razorback that had a licensed FR and it had exactly those Gotoh-style knife edges.
In fact, it looked as if the Gotoh would be a direct replacement...

As a side note, my guitar's stock trem was modeled after the Schaller one so the string lock screws (and thus the route on the body) were much shorter.
In my case I had to swap out the Gotoh string lock screws for some OFR ones (they were 1 or 2 mm shorter than the Gotohs) so as to make 'em fit the cavity without any routing.

If yours is anything like that Razorback then you won't have to worry about it but it's sth to keep in mind ;)

As for dropped tuning, check out the Tremol-No

my post was not about the spread space between the 2 posts... i just meant schaller soft metal base floyds are mounted slightly closer to the neck then a FRO is.....

Re: New Bridge Advice

That I did not know.

Do you mean, closer enough to not be able to compensate with the saddles?
