The time has come for another build. It's based on the telecaster but with a twist. The body is a one piece mahogany with a quilt maple top
A birdseye maple neck...
I'm gonna shape the headstock too being i dont really like the tele headstock so I got a strat one, gives me more meat to play with

^ No, lovely looking wood.

I just picked up a nice slab of solid swamp ash for my next project (actually enough for 3-4 bodies). I'll include pics when I get started.

Sweet man! Love that maple top and that is a great piece of Mahogany, cool being a 1 piece!

Looking forward to the progress on this one!

Re: new build...modern tele

Very lovely wood! Should make an amazing looker for sure.

Just out of curiosity, how much does a slab of mahogany like that typically?

looks awesome! really nice wood, and I like the offset shape of the body. As previous poster, I'd be interested in rough prices for this, if you dont mind sharing.
looking forward to see the results (and progress up to it)

cheers!

Re: new build...modern tele

Nice bit of wood there.

I'm doing something a bit similar with a tele, but mine will be a semihollow type......chambered body and top+bottom carved maple top (with p90's and a LesPaul neck type).
Are you just going solid with that???.....and is that a droptop thickness piece of maple, or will you have to do some shaping to it?

Yeah it's gonna be solid, 1.25 mahogany and 1/2 inch top

Here I routed the channel for the neck pup

Re: new build...modern tele

The swamp ash I just bought cost about $10 a board foot. It's 2" thick, 13" wide and a usable length of 4' (6' total). Cost with tax was under $100 and I can get 3-4 bodies out of it. Solid mahogany was a bit more expensive. I like mahogany, but I love the tone of solid swamp ash, so I'm good.

Im thinking about green, I always see it and like it. So green, more like a lime green

Re: new build...modern tele

You mentioned green.. not sure if you can do a burst, but this guitar is gorgeous. Id like to have a guitar in the color thats around the outer edge.

That's the green I like, kind of lime green. Not sure if I want to burst it or keep it the same all through, I know I'm gonna do the stain and sand back method to get the quilt to pop, so we'll see when I get to that point...
