New build

So ive got a new tele in the works. Pine body with a walnut cap. Plan on dropping a custom custom in it. One volume and a spin a split. I never really use a tone control anyways. I'm thinking of just a simple Tru oil finish on this one. I wanna keep it natural. I'm undecided on grain filler. I like the feel of Gibson les Paul's that have no grain filler and a satin finish. If anyone out there has a custom custom in pine post me some vids/links

Think this is what I'm going for. I grain filled the body after all. Mixed the filler with cordovan transtint nice and dark

Re: New build

NIce!! Like the darker control cover. Well, if the CC is too dark, all he has to do is pop an A8 magnet in it and make it magical!

Re: New build

SHE very well may do that lol. I'm
Hoping someone out there has tried it. This body is your light. It's a chambered two piece pine and weighs right at 3. I was shocked when I picked it up.

Re: New build

Lol. Not used to women floating around a Pickup forum building guitars :) @bloodrose I really love the control cover too. It's nice and thick which I'm grateful for. Should hold up well.

Re: New build

OK, stop teasing, what's with the rest go the guitar?

Neck, hardware, etc........

I'd like to suggest the cut down Tele bridge and ring around the pickup instead of a Tele HB bridge.
I think it would look classier and highlight that gorgeous top even more.

Liked all your Tele's BTW

Re: New build

OOh, pretty! I love Walnut builds. We have a bunch of Walnut trees in our yard, and apparently Walnuts kill (or badly stunt) Tomato plants. SO my wife keeps asking me to cut them, and I just picture all the tasty Walnut I'd be able to build stuff out of. Well, if I had enough free time, anyway...
I grainfilled some Walnut with "Z-poxy", I put it on way too thick and it took forever to sand it down. It was nice and shiny though when I was done... I also heard you can use Tru Oil as kind of a wetsanding fluid and grain fill that way, but I bet it would take just as long as sanding down the epoxy did. BUt I bet it would look (and feel) awesome, though.
More Walnut!

Re: New build

I've seen both Zpoxy and Tru oil used for grain fill. I've never actually tried them myself tho. I thought about trying the Zpoxy but I'm a creature of habit and decided to stay with what I know works. As for the rest of the guitar I'm going with a fender hardtail bridge, wood mount the pickup, and I'm undecided on the neck yet. I'm considering putting a strat neck on it. Maybe an all maple one to contrast with the walnut top. Here's a pic of what it could look like. It started life as a cabronita but I had them reroute it for a bucker.

Re: New build

Very nice! Getting a walnut-topped tele is on my bucket list... a someday project. Is that gold hardware in the pic? The lighting could go either way, but I'm quite partial to gold on walnut (hell, I'm partial to gold hardware on almost anything!)

Looks great! :fing2:

Re: New build

Walnut+gold=classy! Are you gonna leave the back as-is, or stain it? And I'd vote for all-maple neck as well. I love Teles with Strat headstocks, so I think that combo would look sweet on this guitar.

Re: New build

Just gonna leave it as is. A shellac sealer then tru oil so it's gonna have a blonde look to the back
