Fresh from NAMM. Interesting guitar. Mixed brand pickups too, I don't think too many manufacturers do it these days. Too bad its only got a 21 fret neck though. It looks pretty unique, especially with those slanted single coils.

The slanted single coils are awesome- I once had an 80's Japanese made Charvel that had a slanted neck single coil and it had the most awesome tone, like the intro to Skid Row's Monkey Buisness.

I'd love to track down a pickguard with the slanted neck and middle to put on my Charvel So Cal.

I had one made with a slanted neck like that from Terrapin Guitars. It was the only place I could find one. It was custom made.

When I saw Red Dragon Cartel videos on Youtube, I knew it wasn't old Whitey he was playing. Glad to see Charvel do this. Well deserved.

21 frets are what old Whitey has, same pickups too.

Pretty cool!

jmh151,I'm "pretty sure" that Warmoth can do the p/g thingie, but don't hold me to that...

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

My bad.
I know thet have/had options on the br pos single-coil,thought it may have been across the board.
Sorry...

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

SDS-1 in the neck is a little odd, last time I tried that it was too tubby, probably needs that tilt. I got no problem with a 21 fretter, but it's weird that he doesn't have the different sized frets anymore like his old ESP did.

The different sized frets didn't make a whole lot of sense to me

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

I was all set to order one until I got a sneak peek at it. Unfortunately Charvel (Fender) used the wrong color, and bridge. I was really wanting a more accurate model compared to Jake's actual "whitey".

MAP is $2350 for the Jake E Lee model

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

Didn't Jakes guitar actually have a 24.75 scale with a conversion neck? I think I remember that being the case. Charvel makes no mention of that, at least not that I saw......

I think that was a feature he requested on the ESP sigs only, those also had jumbo frets 1-12 and vintage frets 13-22, the original had a stock Fender neck, 3 bolt, bullet truss rod and originally had a large headstock as well, I've read that Jake's friend who worked at Charvel cut down the HS painted it and added the Charvel logo, planed the fretboard to a flatter radius and put Gibson style frets on it.

That makes sense.........thanks for clearing that up for me!

Yeah, thats the story Ive heard from an interview w/Jake. Wasnt actually a Charvel. Cool that he's back and getting the respect he deserves..

JMH151, I had an old Charvel model 3dr or something like that. had a bridge bucker and slant single in the neck pos. Sounded awesome even tho they were the stock Jackson branded pups.

Re: New Charvel Jake E Lee model....pretty cool

There is a short article on him in the Feb 2014 Guitar World that is pretty good.

That's exactly the one I had- I got the guitar for $75 at a pawn shop. It had an aftermarket Dimarzio Megadrive in the bridge, and a stock Jackson single in the slanted neck position- and it sounded awesome.

I even emailed MJ to see if I could get those singles custom wound as I still have the stacked Jacksons I took out of my Soloist, but I never got a response.

Supposedly the whole Jake E Lee revival is because of the DJ Eddie Trunk, He's a huge metal fan and tracked Jake down. Jake was of the belief he wasn't cool or wanted anymore since hair metal if so frowned upon these days, so he dropped out of the spotlight. Trunk had to convince him to come out of hiding , and Jake had to see for himself that people wanted to hear him again. Trunk also managed a few years ago to get Vito Bratta out of hiding for an appearance and interview, though Bratta has no interest in returning.
