New Custom Shop Pickup day!!!

I just received my Custom Shop Creation the other day and got it installed. I wanted something like the IM1, but wanted a tighter low end, slightly more output and slightly higher resistance. I put the request through, and about 2 months later a Seymour Duncan box was waiting for me at the post office.

This pickup was for me to install in my Frankie style strat. Alder body, maple 1 piece neck with stainless steel frets, custom brass and titanium vintage style bridge.

I installed it on Wednesday night, played it a bit then, took the guitar to band practice, and it has just kicked my ass. The pickup I benchmark for tight low end is the DiMarzio Dominion bridge. This Custom Shop pickup achieves a tight low end perfectly. It's probably even slightly more aggressive than the Dominion too, which I love. It's not too high output either. It's crunchy and heavy, without getting fizzy, and it cleans up brilliantly. The tone is fairly balanced which is nice

It's definitely my new favourite pickup. Thanks MJ for whipping up a brilliant piece of gear. :)

Re: New Custom Shop Pickup day!!!

I think you have the EVH Frankenstein? do you also have an IM1 to base this one on? did MJ clarify what type of Alnico she was putting in it? a lot of what you're talking about there applies to the IM1 I just installed, so the little nuances are interesting.

Re: New Custom Shop Pickup day!!!

I've been told this has an alnico 2 magnet.

From what I've been told the IM1 is extremely similar to the Frankie.

Re: New Custom Shop Pickup day!!!

It seems one of the differences is the Frank has the A2 and the IM has the degaussed A5. You got the bonus package! ;-)

Yeah, there are some other things that are different, but that other stuff is a secret. What ever it is, it sounds awesome.
