New effects pedals

Went to GC today and bought a BOSS NS-2 noise gate and a MXR DD-11 Dime distortion also bought a Dime p/u. Do you think this is a bit overkill on the distortion asspect. I bought the dist pedal because it has a three band EQ where my head dosent, just Vol, Contour, Presence, and Gain.
