New Egnater Tweaker owner, question for fellow owners.

Got a new Tweaker head and running into my oversized Avatar 2x12 with Hellatone 30 and 60's. Couple of issues. It is very, very quiet until the volume goes past 1 o'clock, then it finally comes alive. Is the head too weak to for this cab? It's really a a strange thing, it's like the volume is flatlined from 7 o'clock to 12 o'clock, then makes a huge jump in volume and tone, seems odd.

I'm getting a ton of feedback, volume at 2 o'clock, gain about 75%. Then I got some weird squeeks but those went away. Just worried about getting a dud but not sure I can say that for sure.

I got a good deal ($335 + taxes) but there were some other more expensive amps I was interested in so it wouldn't kill me to return it, but felt this was the perfect home jam amp. Sounds good once it got turned up though.

I would check all your tubes to make sure they didnt come loose. If there are no visible issues, exchange it. Mine drives a couple of couple of 4x12s like a champ! Its a great amp and very quiet and the volume is responsive during the full rotation of the knob. Definately a keeper I think, but get one with no issues.. Let me know how it turns out..

+1 on checking your tubes and possible exchange.
If you've got some known good tubes, you could try swapping out and trouble-shooting.
Otherwise, just make sure Ohms match the cab.

I had a conversation with one of the guys at Egnater about GC and how they wouldn't replace bad preamp tubes that Egnater told them about early on with the Rebel 20's.

So pull and reset the tubes. If that doesn't fix it and you've got matching ohm setting for the cab, exchange it.

Yep, ohms are correct. 8 into 8. Tubes are both burning orange but I'll check to see if it's loose.

I've learned from experience that just because the tubes are glowing doesn't mean they are good. Try some known good tubes.

Man, I really want to check out one of these Tweaker heads through my Mesa 2x12. Seems like a fun amp for jamming at home and small gigs.

I think they are great! Lots of usable tones if you tweak it. Nice cleans, great crunch.. Plenty of power to tick off the neighbors thru a 2 or 4x12

What did you figure out with this TopJimmy?

To be honest, I've had no time to think about it. Stupid real world gets in the way of my fun. Hopefully tomorrow start monkeying with it. Thanks for the help!

Re: New Egnater Tweaker owner, question for fellow owners.

Well, the Tweaker had to go back. I monkey'd with it some but couldn't find any obvious problems. I don't have spare tubes so I couldn't swap, nor would I want to.

Ended up with a Peavey 6505+ combo instead. $490+tax.

Couple things made we go another way: I'm not really restricted by loudness and the 15 watts didn't have the horsepower I felt. Even though I don't play in a band, I knew I'd miss a footswitch. The 6505 has reverb which means once less pedal I'd need. The Crunch channel on the 6505 is in the same region as the Tweaker, plus I get some high gain options on the lead channel.

All in all a better fit. I would still recommend a Tweaker as a good home amp, I just got spooked by the performance of mine.

very cool! Ive been curious about these combos. Do they have the normal 6505 sound?? I wondered due to it being 60 watts and all. I love the 6505 tone, but needed something more versatile so I couldnt pay full price for the head, but this lower priced alternative gets me Gassing!
