I finally made the plunge, after months of shopping and comparing, and got myself a used 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus, in heritage cherry... I'm really happy with the way it looks and plays, having gotten it from ebay.
I had to do quite a bit of setup on it -- whoever had it before had messed things up a bit, so I had to do it all -- truss rod, bridge height, tailpiece height, pickup height, and I even had to turn the pickups around, since they had been reversed... but now it plays and feels great. It's fairly light, at 7.5 lbs, but it feels nice.
