years ago a friend of mine built me a trainwreck express inspired amp, i finally got around to getting a proper cab made for it. another friend made it using some old rare wood he had at his shop, hes a retired carpenter, but still plays with wood in his shop most days. the amp is LOUD as hell for a 45w amp!

Wow! That looks awesome! Have you had a chance to compare it to a real Trainwreck amp?

hahaha no. there arent many real ken fisher express amps out there, the last one i saw was sold for $55k.

I've never tried one, either. How would you describe yours? And how close is the circuit?

Nice. I got to hear one once at the Orlando Vintage Guitar Show many, many years ago. (Along with forum bro StratDeluxer.) You couldn't really hear it in it's full glory because they didn't want everyone cranking their amps, but what I did hear was sweet.

Enjoy.

Cab looks nice but the chassis feels a little naked without labels and indicators. :P

i plan on putting a veneer over the chassis front to change the look, but i dont think ill put labels or indicators. input, bright switch, volume, treble, mid, bass, presence.

ive heard billy gibbons play one, actually it was ken's personal express that he sold to billy when he was sick, and a few others, but never played through a real one. ken made maybe 100 amps before he died and each one was tweaked for the player, kinda like dumbles. theres a bunch of schematics out there if you dig around. lots of similarities which gives a good place to start from, and we tweaked it from there. it had a ferocious amount of gain so we dialed it back a bit, but it still has plenty. as i start to gig it more, ill probably modify it slightly.

its the most touch responsive amp ive played. i sat in with a friends throw together band last week and used this through a 1x12 eminence maverick loaded cab (dialed all the way back) with basically the settings shown in the pic. washburn wms with seth lovers->21' cable->amp. with the guitar volume full up it was like a raging plexi, but it cleaned up very well by either rolling back the guitar volume or by hitting the strings very lightly. spanky cleans to roaring overdrive without a huge change in perceived volume in the room. even with the volume at 9 oclock, there is still great sustain if you want it. ive had the amp for a while, but havent used it too much since it was just a chassis. definitely seems like an amp that you learn to play with time

While I don't own anything like that, I will spend some time with several TW models on my Fractal to try to get the 'flavor' of them. It sounds like an amp I would love.

it also becomes very apparent that you sound like you, regardless of gear. different amps and guitars make a difference, but only so much. my typical rig is strat into deluxe reverb. sg into marshall still sounds like me :D
