New Here, have amp questions

Hey, im looking for a amp that can give me some good 80s metal lead tones(ratt, dokken, warrant, whitelion, winger, extreme, etc). I play alot of lead stuff in the style of those bands. Id also like to have a good EVH style brown sound. Heres the amps i was thinking about, but im not sure which one to go for:A marshall jcm800 2203 with a tube screamer or overdrive pedal and a 10band EQ, or a marshall DSL with maybe a 10band EQ, or a peavey 5150. I would probaly buy some chorus and delay pedals to. Do you think any of those rigs would work?

I think a 5150 mark 2 would get you pretty close with the right cab and guitar rig. And you wouldnt need an OD pedal, only some fx maybe. But alone those amps absolutely rock...but they are pretty heavy amps. Eddie van halen actually uses a 5150 (well he promotes them anyway) nowadays, and i rekon if your playing is up to it then one of these amps will give you a great EVH sound too.

Id go one over a marshall, but if you were going a marshall id go the 800 not the DSL, an 800 with a good OD pedal will probably sound much better than a DSL...but DSL's still sound good.

But for all those styles of music id ditch the lot and go an ENGL ;) Look at some ENGL stuff if you can find it...mmmmm :cool2:

But of the ones you mentioned id go 5150 for sure...mark 2.

My vote is for the JCM800. Most of the tones you mention were made with the 800's. Either modified versions, or stock with the gain on the amp rolled down from the max setting, then pushed with a Rat or some other similar pedal, to achieve those rich, thick, meaty tones.

Even better is getting one of the 2 channel models, and having it pro-modded. You can have it done for between $350-$450, and have a rig very similar to what the stars of the 80's were playing, when guys like Lee Jackson, Mike Soldano and Bogner were just starting out modding Marshall's for the stars. Let me know if you want to go that route, and I'll hook you up with a couple of guys that do fantastic work.
