New hums for my Ibanez RG3120

Hi,

Whau...there are so many posts here......gave up on trying to find the answer to my question ;o)

I want another sound.... more of a rock sound, than metal sound.

From the neck I want a not to sharp sound, with great mids and from the bridge I want good 'umpf', not too muddy and still be able to make pinch harm.

I don´t know if this makes sense to you guys, but I´d appreciate suggestions ;o)

I put a Custom Custom (bridge) and Pearly Gates (neck). These two pups sound amazing. They are very much Rock/Classic Rock, and through a Marshall they sound unbelievable. You can also push them Van Halen style with a 5150 and they will perform very well.

BTW, I put them on a chinese Ibanez (Gio Series) GRG370FM.

The Custom/Pearly Gates combo is definately cool. Add a couple of coil split switches and you can cover a lot of territory with that setup.

BTW, welcome to the forum. :burnout:

Benjy, I got it set up like this with a regular 5-Way switch:

POS 1: Bridge HUM
POS 2: Bridge Single
POS 3: Bridge/Neck Single
POS 4: Neck Single
POS 5: Neck HUM

I don't know much about Duncans, but if you are considering Dimarzios, a Fred bridge/PAF Pro neck might suit you well.

They are mid-output pickups with great dynamics and clarity.
The PAF Pro has a little spike in the mids, and generally sounds great in the neck.
Pinch harmonics are pretty easy with the Fred, and it has a bump in the mids as well. It pairs nicely with the PAF Pro.

Other possibilities are the Fred/PAF Joe, or the new Mo' Joe and PAF Joe.

For more "oomph" at the bridge, you could use a Breed neck in the bridge slot. Not sure about harmonics with it, though.

Good luck!

Bob

The rg3120 already has a paf pro in the neck

I agree that the custom in bridge, pearly gates in neck would be good.

Oh yeah, if you go Duncan you will have to snip the legs of the pups to get them to fit into space provided. The rg3120 was ment to fit dimarzios.

I wouldn't change them if you have the PAF Pro/ Tone Zone. I thought you had the DiMarzio IBZ on them as on the 2002 model.

Re: New hums for my Ibanez RG3120

I'd go with a CC and PG or 59 in the neck.

I get great classic rock tones with my FRED/PAF Pro.

MrJAck,

just curious, what's wrong with the tonezone/pafpro ?
i mean, what is it about the sound that you don't like?
