WCR Guitar Pickups and and ICED EARTH announce Jon Schaffer signature pickup, the "Ice Bucker".

"I've been buying pickups handwound by Jim Wagner of WCR Guitar Pickkups for the last few years and I can say hands down, his are second to none. These babies really make your ears perk up, and recording with them is pure harmonic magic. I've got several models in various guitars, mainly Gibson Les Pauls, the Godwood set (used on the majority of my axes on Framing Armageddon), the Crossroads set (Used in my Baritone Les Paul for all of the Baritone tracks on Framing as well), the Betset, and the Moore/Greene (both used on all of the lead melodies on Framing Armageddon) set are some of my favorites. However, now Jim has developed a new signature pickup that is wound specifically for my percussive picking style.

This new pickup, called the "Ice Bucker", is a killer humbucker pickup that is harmonically rich and extremely responsive to thunderously fast picking styles. Jim and I have been working on this for a few months and it's dialed in and ready for public consumption.

Jon Schaffer"

Iced earth's tone has always been amazing to my ears. This just makes me want to throw these in my explorer. I have to ask are there any WCR pickup users out there??

Re: New Iced Earth pickups from WCR Guitar Pickups

I lost interest in him and his music when he dumped all over Tim Owens.

Re: New Iced Earth pickups from WCR Guitar Pickups

I guess, thats what he refers to the ceramic magnets he puts in his pickups...

Re: New Iced Earth pickups from WCR Guitar Pickups

They are expensive! Think if you can get what you want first without spending.

Huh? What do you mean, that's Tim Owens singing at "Framing Armageddon"

Did you mean Barlow instead because if you did it was him that left Iced Earth to become a lawyer or sth of the sort.
Apparently he decided that after the 10/11 incident...

BTW, they do sound pretty nice but I am out of guitars plus Something Forum CS Single Coil this way comes :D

No Schaffer sacked Tim not too long ago. Then he asked Barlow to come back. Tim raised the profile of his band, got them some amazing reviews, then Jon dumped on him. Tim's now working with another egomaniac, Yngwie!

Re: New Iced Earth pickups from WCR Guitar Pickups

Hmm, far from me calling Schaffer a stand up guy, in all fairness he never wanted Barlow to go (after all, IIRC they are brothers-in-law too). If I remember correctly he even tried to convince him to stay but apparently his heart wasn't into it and after several quite unsuccessful recording sessions he finally let him go. Now this is all guessing from my part but it appears that he never stopped wanting him back and as soon as Barlow decided he wanted to return, Owens had to go...

(BTW, in my previous post I screwed up the date, it's 9/11 but I wrote 10...:9:)

Proof that metal guitar players who know real tone aren't out chasing mega output pickups marketed for metal.

The best pickup designs have already been discovered, and they fall directly into the specs that WCR and Seymour have known for years.
The Ice Bucker and Brobucker probably aren't too different from one another.

Very true.....but you have to admit it is nice having choices. I have pickups in the 8k range, pickups with thinnner wire in the 12-14k range and hot pickups with ceramic magnets in the 16-19k range! There is room for all, and all bring something to the table. I personally don't think it has anything to do with one knowing tone over the others. After all, Mr. Gear....don't you use the Custom and C5 a lot?:)

DMZ, BL (as in Bill and Becky) and EMG say, "Hi!". I love SD pups, (the majority of my guitars have Sds) but there is a wide world still covered better by other brands and some indies that inhabit this forum... like Zhang working for SD would benefit both, IMO.
