Edited to add that this is not a NGD post. I clearly see now that my original title and post made it look like I was posting a NGD. LOL. Just posting this up cause I thought it was cool and wanted to share. I did not buy one. I repeat, I did not buy one. :nono:

Les Paul Junior-ish Godin Summit Classic SG P90. Basswood body, maple neck. About $650. Haven't played nor seen one but knowing Godin, it's at least a safe bet that it's a quality guitar.

Awesome score and a really nice guitar. I own a Godin Belmont guitar which plays fantastic and it's my first Seymour Duncan pick up equipped guitar.;)

Yeah. Not a score. I edited my post. It was badly worded. Not a NGD just a PSA. You can dislike my original post now, if you want. I wont take it personally. :D

Again, I didn't buy one of these. But, as much as I really dig Les Pauls (and several other Gibson models), I would not buy one sight unseen unless I had no choice. However, I would feel confident about buying a Godin online. I own 3.

Proper Godin (Canada, right?) or license-built by a factory in Asia?

If it's the genuine article, good on them for making it simple and right at an attractive pricepoint, without the intentional uglification Gibson churns out to make damn sure they aren't poaching their own grown-up model lines' customers


Now if they'd cough up a single-bucker version with a locking trem option and advertise focusing on their country of origin (IF it is canada), they could take a serious chunk of the market unawares

Godin has been releasing some great guitars lately. I am still really diggin' mine.

They don't build overseas. They do have some work done in the USA for some models. But they are primarily made in Canada.

Heck, on looks alone, that thing is a winner! Look at the way the pickguard blends into the design and doesn't look like an add on. Very nice.

Agree, I think it looks sweet.

Curious about them going with basswood. Godin had been transitioning to Spanish cedar from Mahogany the last few years in all the Core and Summit models. They discontinued the Core line and now have the flat top Summit SG models that took their place. Looks like they are all basswood solid bodies. The more expensive carve top Summit's are still Spanish cedar (chambered).

My Montreal Premiere is made of cherry, and it sounds wonderful. They are doing great things with 'alternative' woods.

It's strange but I have a really strong ingrained image of "Godin Players" : Curly/long black hair. Flowy button-up shirt. Baggy khakis. Jazz fusion/session artist/"serious musician" type. Whenever I count two or three of those things combined, I wait for the Godin.

Not a slight at all- the guitarists I've met in those confines really knew their stuff and knew a quality instrument. Just funny how they seem to have cornered that market in my experience. I'm tempted by Godin's value, but somehow their guitars never grab me as something I'd totally need to play.

We talk about Godin and Reverend a lot in the saving Gibson series because they are great examples of working with the market to do something a little better, capitalize on that gain, and then follow up with another little advance- It's a lot like compound interest.

Of course quality and value points are good as well or they wouldn't be able to stay in the game and I hope their 'small industry' mentality doesn't shift as they grow-

Talked to a dealer who says that PRS also pitch themselves as 'small industry'- seems like a good way of thinking.
