New Melody Maker Day

Re: New Melody Maker Day

Sounds as if you have the same problem that I did with my PRS SE One.

On my P90-equiped mahogany slab, I only really need a Tone control to be either wide open or totally rolled off. ("Woman Tone".) I achieved this with a push-pull pot and a capacitor connected to ground as a pre-set Tone.

What a cool solution!

What a cool solution!

Classic Esquire trick! It's very cool with the cocked wah wiring for the front switch position.

Most of the time, I am with Funkfingers on having the tone at either 0 or 10. But sometimes I do like to roll it back just a few numbers on some of my guitars.

If you don't feel comfortable with adding the spot for the tone pot with a router, a simple hole saw and drill will do the trick, albeit less elegantly.

Drilling the hole accurately is a jig job. Ideally, it should have been performed before the wood went to the paint shop. This is why idsnowdog and I both suggested additional routing beneath the scratch plate.

Done.

I chiseled away a good amount of material and cleaned up where I could reach with a drum sander on a Dremel. The bottom is a bit rough, but it'll do. Work in progress pics, below. Finished pics coming soon...

Looks good! But I would probably switch the places for the jack and the tone pot so the cable doesn't get in the way when you go to roll the tone knob down or up.

Re: New Melody Maker Day

^^ Would help with the plunge for the jack too, but downside is knobs end up too close together

Re: New Melody Maker Day

After adding the tone control, I started over with pickups and tried the PG again. This time it sounds much better - a keeper! , (though I admit I am interested to try a Phat Cat or BG Pure90)

Aside from the mismatched knob, here is the finished product:

Re: New Melody Maker Day

Complete ... also swapped for green key tuners

(edit: I just noticed how the color of the guitar almost exactly matches the offical SD forum background color)
