New member! Advice on wiring cable needed!

Hi everyone!

I've been lurking these forums for a while now, and learnt a helluva lot about pickups, guitars, amps...

Recently, I've got what will be my main guitar for a long long time, and I'm about to wire a single APH1-b to it.

The axe itself has a LP Double cut shape, rear routed, and it will be wired with just the pickup and 1 vol (500k CTS pot). Seymour's schematic is pretty clear, but I have a doubt regarding cable. Besides the wire on the pickup itself, I just need two cables, for the Hot and Ground outta the jack (the ground from the bridge is already installed in the guitar).

I've got a wiring kit, with the thin normal wire (black red and white in color) and the thick, shielded wire. What should I use for these two connections? One would assume that the shielded wire would be better at reducing noise, right?

And on the same topic, I've seen some people wiring the inside of the control cavity on their LP's. Is that really necessary, especcially with a simple layout like this? The stock Gibsons come unshielded and they're not noisy...

Thanks in advance boys, keet it rockin'! :firedevil

you can use whatever wire you like. in long runs like from the switch to the jack on a les paul i might use shielded wire but most of the time i dont worry about it. if noise bothers you and you play in noisy environments then it might be worth it but i find that there is very little difference.

Thanks for the answer, Jeremy. I'd gues I'd go for it, then. Even if there ain't a big difference, since I have the cable already doesn't cost me anthing to try it. I just wanna make sure there's no downside to it...

What do you think about shielding the pot cavity? I don't play in a particulary noisy environment, but I do use plenty of gain, and I'd like to keep noise levels to a resonable minimum. If however there's no need to shield the cavity on LP's, I'd gladly skeep that step.

Thanks again, bro! :)
