New mic in the house ... Rode NTK/Splawn/Bare Knuckle Content

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
I was able to kill 2 birds with one stone today: First, I was able to play the Riff Raff/Stormy Monday loaded Agile through the Splawn today. And second, I was able to test out the new Rode NTK vavle mic I picked up for the demo sessions next month.

Here's the audio:

If you can't open the player, use this one: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=169000
It's the top clip, Song X Solo Section

What I found totally enlightening is the fact that the Riff Raff in a Les Paul nails the old Queensryche tone (Rage For Order, Warning era) if I roll the gain back a bit.

Really great Lead tone!Lot's of character !The clean part was not bad but not impressive too.But the lead tone..tastefull!

Re: New mic in the house ... Rode NTK/Splawn/Bare Knuckle Content

Ha. I thought the lead part was a bit lacking, but the clean had a great ring. Oh, well.

I have the NTK as well, and the only thing I've found it really shines on is vocals. And fantastic, warm, present vocals it does. It don't sound too bad here, though.

I have used the NTK for everything from Vox to Acoustic guitar and I continue to be very pleased. Balanced and warm tone, low noise.

Re: New mic in the house ... Rode NTK/Splawn/Bare Knuckle Content

Oh, yes. And acoustic guitar. Thanks for reminding me.

All's I can say is that Mid-December is arriving awful slow for me ;) 'cause I'm killin' it in the shed the last few weeks.

Even sounded nice on "lo-fi" which is what I've got here. I really liked the acoustic motif - I want to say it (the acoustic line) sounded more Led Zep than anything I've ever heard from you, but that's me. Man, if you had the time, an 80s-ish hair-ish Miracle Man clip through all that stuff would be da bomb if you get my picture.

There's nothing I can do to prepare you for the jaw-dropping experience you are in store for!!

Acoustic?! That's the neck pickup in parallel!!

80s LA metal style thing? I might be able to whip something up ... though, truth be told, the Miracle Man would be the go-to pickup for that kind of clip.

Dod I say acoustic? I meant "clean." That sounded very good. I don't hear many comments about the Splawn clean channel, but that sounded very... well... clean.

You guys and your channel switchers.
