Check this out guys.

My new yamaha S90 put through it's paces.

Guitar work was done with a heritage Les Paul with Antiquity humbuckers, running through Peavey JSX halfstack on Ultra channel.
EDIT: Sorry i forgot to say: the first theme is actually played through a blues junior (because my peavey was in the shop). But from the first guitar solo - when it gets a little brighter and onward, it's all Peavey JSX.

I had a problem getting the drum fills to sound natural. i'll see what i can do about that later...

Good one man, nice guitar work.

It sounds like the snare fills are on a 1/16th note grid, that's what makes them sound programmed, they're also all the same in spots (the triplet feel ones). Try moving them off the grid, closer together like a drummer would actually play them.

sounds good, but I'd bring the lead guitar up in the mix a tad more. otherwise, very nice melodic playing.

Yeah i really tried to showcase the piano for this one. I think i'll move the guitar just a tad up in the mix, and maybe add more high end to the guitar. I think i can still pan things better, because there are 2 pads and a rhythm guitar in the mix that make things a bit crowded.

what would you call this style of music? maybe like prog rock / smooth jazz hybrid?

Put a low cut filter on the pads to open up the mix at 360 Hz and one on the piano at about 120 Hz.

I'm getting interesting feedback about this tune.

One guy told me it sounds too "loungy" and i need to mic up a real piano. But i think i just have a wrong eq and effects on the keyboard tracks. I'm working on another version :)

Another person told me that I am good at writing songs which appeal to musicians, but not regular folks. I kind of agree with this. I need to write something by modeling it after a britney spears song.

I did research before on Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers - 2 guys behind Christina Aguilera, 98 degrees, nsync, Rihanna, etc... They wrote "Please don't stop the music" - which held #1 in plenty of countries. Man - those 2 dudes can WRITE!

Everything about it is well done, but it is very much like something I'd expect to hear at my dentist office or more likely, the Weather Channel.

I don't think this is something that appeals to musicians more than anyone else. It's not super complex stuff. It's very melodic. Musicians IMO, tend to like stuff with complex rhythms and melodies. There are no curve balls in this piece, it's all pretty straight forward and you can pretty much get it and predict where it's going on the first listen.

I'm guessing that the person who thinks you write stuff more geared for musicians is saying that because it's an instrumental piece. "Regular folks" like vocals, I guess.

LoL Cool. I can definitely see why that is. Smooth Jazz from Chicago has been a huge influence on me lately :) Actually the person who said that is my keyboard player from my weddings band - and he is a musician himself. He writes very cool synth ideas too - that sound like good quality european pop music.

I guess i just gotta keep trying to write melodies and eventually I may come up with one that sticks in people's heads, and they can't help it - HAHA.
Man the dentist office thing is kinda good actually - maybe i can get it played at a mall LOL.
