New Peavey 6505 cheaper than Fender Hot Rod deluxe at MF.

Re: New Peavey 6505 cheaper than Fender Hot Rod deluxe at MF.

Is it made in the US?

also why can't Peavey just make a 60watt head version of the 5150 with a bias control? I don't need 4 power tubes and i sure as hell don't need a hi-gain combo amp with a open back cab.

Throw some casters and side handles on it and you have an excellent high-gain amp. Those are still made in the US (IIRC).

kind of funny how it has a speaker and more features and costs less than the head...

Re: New Peavey 6505 cheaper than Fender Hot Rod deluxe at MF.

the hot rod deluxe isn't exactly a high gain amp like the 6505

I was thinking the same thing. Two COMPLETELY different animals. I would figure out what kind of sound you're going after before considering buying anything.

Did anybody say the HRD is hi-gain?

well he compared the two prices saying that it is cheaper than the HRD, implying that the HRD was previously a better buy than the 6505 in the field of high gain amps

Re: New Peavey 6505 cheaper than Fender Hot Rod deluxe at MF.

High gain isn't the only thing the 6505 does well. I plugged into one once and I really liked the sound I got with the gain set where it just starts to break up. It's a very smooth break up, not harsh, no sound like paper tearing. The only thing is it tends to have that woofy, growly EQ curve to it.

The combo sounds very intriguing. I might have to plug into one once GC or someone gets them in stock.

Does it matter ?

Marshall is not US made and they have kick arse amps !
Gretsch is not US made, and is superior guitars !

NOPE, i am comparing it too the Fender, because where i live, a Hot Rod is seen as a very affordable (((LOUD))), very reliable valve amp !
A very GOOD "entry-level" gig quality valve amp - the Fender that is, and this Peavey is cheaper than that !

The audible difference between 50-60 w and 100-120 w is negligible (assuming same cab). But you will get a lot more headroom w/ 4 power tubes, which I would think would help a high-gain amp?

Does it matter ?

After dealing with Peavey's recent Chinese tube amp offerings...Yes it does matter from a reliability standpoint. Actually any chinese made tube amp is kind of risky if you plan on having it for years. I've seen valvekings and windsors just crap out due to poor cheap parts.

And sure 4x6L6s do offer quite a bit of headroom. But I see a 2x6L6 offering just the perfect amount of headroom vs low volume cook that I would need. Never in small PA driven clubs and rehearsals in basements have I gotten to crank any 100watt amps to where it sounds great. My B-52 AT100 is always running in Class A mode and it while saggy...sounds great.

I guess ill just have to get a used 5150/6505 and a Attenuator?
