New pedal and cab.... happy days!

Today I'm happy, nearly 20 years after I gave my last one away I got a Jap Ibanez FL9 flanger. I only had a brief soundcheck today after I got in from work and was kind of surprised with what I found. Being a modulation pedal I just took for granted I should put it in the effects loop along with my chorus and delay. My amp lost it's edge, sparkle for want of a better word even when the FL9 was not engaged. So I tried it in the front of the amp with much better results, got the sparkle back... and I was getting some nice EVH sounds. So all in all I'm real happy as I won this on Ebay and didn't think it would be a Jap made pedal as I got it for a steal. Good stuff.

Also a week or so ago I bagged a Marshall 4 x 12 loaded with Heritage G12H30s for a great price. Been after one for a while and found one at a silly price. So I sold my Epi SG (great guitar that I just wasn't playing) and used the cash from that sale to pay for the cab which is something that will get used. It's in pretty good shape with just a couple of scuffs/ tears along the bottom edge. I'm real happy to have it and look forward to playing through it at our next gig. It doesn't sound as warm as my vintage Orange with early 70's G12H30's in, but it sounds pretty darn good, clear and articulate with some good thump!

As Hoss the Boss says.... new stuff rocks!

Re: New pedal and cab.... happy days!

Have its older brother the FL-301....
Also had the FL-9, but it was to chorus like for me....the old one is a fat swirly machine though.....
Great shape it is in by the way......you guys should stop stuffing yer pedals in the loop...and flangers sounds best before dirt, Eddie did the same.

Had an old 67 cab like that one.....very nice indeed!
Looks great!
Congrats!

Re: New pedal and cab.... happy days!

Cheers fellas.
Neils, yeah I'm planning on keeping it before any dirt pedals as it loses clarity otherwise. I'm also eyeing up an old 301 too... we'll see ;-)

Re: New pedal and cab.... happy days!

A couple of great scores there Don. At some point I'd like to get one of those cabs for the JTM. It'll be quite a way off, but it will happen!! ;)

Re: New pedal and cab.... happy days!

Looks cool Don!

I'm toying with the idea of a 4x12 again even though I don't really have room for 1 and don't think it'd be long before transporting it got on my nerves :D

Re: New pedal and cab.... happy days!

Stevie, you never know you may well end up with this one one day! :dunno: I doubt I'll let this go, one of my boys will get it, but if ever I do you'll be the first to know as that JTM would be awesome with this.

Craig, I know these days most people will go with a combo or 2 x 12/ head but I just love the punch you get from 4 x 12's and it's worth the effort if you can do it.

At least this Marshall cab is well built unlike the Hendrix R.I I had a couple of years ago where the particle board/ composite/ regurgitated back had split/ broken in 2 places although it was mint! My old JCM800 had a ply back so I assumed the Hendrix would have too???

Yeah, I know what you mean about the punch of a 4x12.

I had a 1970s Orange 4x12 that had 2 Greenbacks and 2 McKenzie speakers in it and it sounded great. A very rich and full sound, but it was a little bit farty at time, and because it didn't really fit with what I was doing at the time, I sold it on. With those speakers in I bet it really would've suited the QR I have now :( Ah well, guess I'll keep my options open! :D

Re: New pedal and cab.... happy days!

That cab looks awesome, dude. Congrats. :beerchug:

Re: New pedal and cab.... happy days!

Never ask my opinion. If it's something like that cab, I'll chant "do it, do it, do it."
And that's why you own it! LOL

I bought my 1960AHW empty, so I just loaded it with what I had....a more modern sound....V30 on top, G12-75T on bottom.

Those basketweave cabs are the best looking speaker cabs ever made IMO.

It's true folks, I contacted GJ and then he forced me to buy it even though I didn't want to... he made me do it! :fingersx:
