I'm thinking of ordering another pickguard for my beater strat (which has been my #1 for the last year and a half). Currently just has a PAF Pro in the bridge, slightly angled, with a single 500K volume pot. That's it.
Thinking of adding a couple pickups, but not quite in the usual format. I'm debating an SHS setup (singles in neck and bridge, and a full size 'bucker in the middle), sort of like the Wayne Kramer strat. I'd probably put the PAF Pro in the middle slot, and seek out a deep/fluid/stratty sounding neck pickup and some sort of rail pickup for the bridge position (maybe a Chopper?).
Most likely a 5-way switch and just a volume knob-- I hate fiddling with tone knobs. My goal would be to have each pickup position sound radically different from each other, so that I could have not only 3 distinct sounds, but also some interesting pairings in the 2 & 4 positions (as I typically hate the 2 & 4 sounds on a regular strat).
What should I be looking for in the neck slot? This would mainly be for clean stuff, or really ballsy bright/stratty distorted neck pickup sounds.
