Yes, I ordered Dimarzio PAF 57's for my Les Paul. Over the last 26 years I have had Seths, Antiquities and currently a Brobucker/PG in it. I have not been satisfied with any of them.. Not terrible, but not want from it so I took a different path this time. I have already put in the highest quality pots, caps etc. and its 50's wired which did help but its not there yet. So, we will see if this alternative route pays off in a few days hopefully

what were those pups lacking? i like ants, seths, and pgs. hell, even a 59 set can sound great in the right guitar. i havent tried the paf 57s, but the 36th anniversary, while good pups, arent very paf like

The Ants were a little flat. Wanted more bite/chime. The Seths were better but not quite right. Over all I am looking for something a little less fat in the bottom with more bite. I didn't try 59's because those have more low end then than what I had already tried... For what its worth, the same Seth's were perfect in my Cu22

gotcha. my guitars tend to be bright and i use bf fender amps for most things so i like a little more from my pups. not a lot more, but a little.

Interesting to see what you think after the "honeymoon" period.

I haven't delved into any of the newer DiMarzio PAF models myself. Very curious how they stack up to the Ants, Seths, etc, since those are pretty great pickups.

The general thing I've noticed with DiMarzio PAFs vs Duncan PAFs is Duncans were always clearer to me. DMZs always have had a murky mid thing to me, note clarity of chords wasn't there. I haven't tried the PAF 57s, but the 36th Anniversary ones. Interested to hear how these work out.

the 36th have the slugs in the bobbins, i assume thats where the murky thing comes from

I cannot speak to the DImarzio PAF's I have Evo's in my 93 Ibanez S series. I have had other Vai variants in other shredders. These are the first Dimarzio PAF type. I heard Cameron Cooper and a few others demo them in Youtube vids that were good enough to take the shot. I waited several weeks to get the aged nickel covers. They should look good at least against the wine red
