New pickups coming soon!!

I’m close to soldering the new set for my esp vintage plus

Stks4 neck , stks4 middle, lil 59 bridge; will use a super switch to do auto split in pos 2 and 4.
I also want to use a push pull pot to add the bridge humbuvker + neck full stack

So I have a couple queries you might be able to answer please:
- any wiring diagram with the push pull pot to add n+b? Couldn’t find it on the SD diagrams
- Do I must have a wire to the tremolo claw? It’s not shown in the SD diagram and maybe because of the stks4 pickups is not required?

Thanks for your help guys.

I’m actually so nervous about this wiring, as based on my previous experiences, I’m just not very good wiring pickups but can’t afford a tech at the moment.

Thanks!
Max

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

Sorry, I don’t have answers to your questions.

But I recently installed STK-S4s in the neck and middle of an HSS superstrat (with a full size 59 in the bridge).

I get a better tone when I don’t try to split them, even with the bridge humbucker.

You are gonna love those pickups.

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

If you're nervous about your specific wiring situation, I'd suggest taking a look at GuitarElectronics.com and their wiring diagrams. If they don't have the specific diagram you're looking for, they also offer custom drawn wiring diagrams for a standard fee. Good luck though, sounds like it's shaping up to be a real secret weapon!

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

The instructions that come with the STK-S4s have diagrams for doing the splitting in positions 2 and 4 of a 5-way superswitch. Those instructions come with the pickups. If you don't have that, contact me and I can scan and email you a copy of that diagram.

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

Thanks guys, I do have the original paper work jimcore many thanks for the offer anyway :)

I will go and wire it today. My esp is a good guitar but can't use it much because of the hum. I have many gigs in the coming months and really miss a strat at them. So excited!

I'll go with this:
Neck full stks4n
Neck plus mid split stks4 mid and neck
Middle full stks4m
Bridge plus mid split lil59 and split stks4m
Bridge full lil59

Push pull add bridge humbucker

I would have loved to get split bridge plus split neck in the push pull but it wouldn't be hum cancelling so have to let that go :)

Thanks for your messages, much appreciated

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

Ok
All done. Took me hours but its done, not grabbing the soldering iron for a while I hope hahah

I LOVED the stk s4 neck and mid, I loved them a lot.
Also loved the lil59 bridge, it's still bright enough to be in the ball park with the stks so combination works well.

I wired the lil59 with a tone pot first but not good, better do without it as it's more open and defined, closer to the stks4
I did not need the ground to the tremolo claw supringsinly . It doesn't hum so all good! Finally can use my esp live again .

Thanks to everyone for your assistance and advise

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

Btw, couldn't use the push pull for the neck + bridge as I bought the wrong pot apparently :(
Next time

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

Awesome! Can you post a pic of the finished project?

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

I did not need the ground to the tremolo claw surprisingly. It doesn't hum so all good!

Cool project. Glad that worked out. Typically, you need to ground the bridge on all but active pickups. If yours isn't a problem, then you're good to go. Enjoy.

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

Sound clips!

You're right, should do that.
Will get to it soon, I'm practicing for some gigs this month . I will maybe record something during the practice.

But let me tell you, I'm loving the results.
I have very very minor static noise when I touch the pickguard, I think I will add the ground cable to the tremolo claw next string change

Any other ideas of what can cause the static noise? The whole pickguard is foiled in the back and the body cavity is shielded as well, so not sure

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

Looking to do the same thing for my Strat but with a STK-S7 bridge.
How is the position 4 with split N+M?
Did you use a regular 5-way switch for the split?

Do you mean position 4 (N+M) also? Better not splitted?

Re: New pickups coming soon!!

I have an LTD Strat and it's one of the best strat I played, I cannot imagine how a real ESP should be :)

ESP vintage plus are very very good guitars. Resonant, GREAT construction overall!, comes with great stock pickups, great hardware, 2 piece alder body in my case. Being pickky, only downside - to me that is - is that the neck in the vintage plus are a bit skinny for my preference, which I believe makes the guitar brighter (less bass).
I tried an LTD strat once and the neck was defo fatter than whats in my esp.

In a way, specs of the ESP vintage plus were similar to the former fender american deluxe range. I would call the ESP Vintage Plus as a classic strat type guitar, but with modern appointments.
They don't male it anymore sadly.
