New Pickups Day

I finally get to try a JB/Jazz combo. Found a local deal on the set. The caveat was, it came with a guitar and a gig bag. It's a Hamer Standard FT. I've been wanting an Explorer shape for a long while, and thus deal came up, for barely more than the cost of the pickups.

Practice this Saturday, I'll see how I like it.

Re: New Pickups Day

Just did a little setup work on it last night, new strings, adjustments, etc. Ran the Soul Food into my OCD and it was rocking hard. Couldn't turn it up too much with the kids asleep, but it was delicious. The JB is great in this thing. It's got CTS pots, and I replaced the switch and added a chrome knob on the center control so it matches. It's ready to melt some faces.

Very cool! I considered those pretty hard as I always wanted a Hamer standard but couldnt swing the real deal. Look forward to your post practice update!

I would love to build a copy of a Hamer Special P-90. Really nice buy! I hope it pays off for you in good memories and great sounds!

Man, I just can't take myself seriously playing this thing! The JB/Jazz is an amazing combo. I've tried the JB numerous times, and never found a way to gel with it before now. Maybe it's guitar, but I'm really digging it. It's really versatile, and it's volume controls are super responsive. It hits the front of my OCD pretty hard, and even with the gain only on about 5 o'clock, it grinds very nicely. The upper mids cut through, and the Jazz neck is what I've been looking for in a neck spot. It's articulate, not woofy. The one thing to get used to is that the body is BIG. It's a monster plank of wood, so it's got some real body plugged in even, though it's not too heavy.

Eventually, I plan on maybe using this down tuned and with some chugga chugga stuff, but I'll need an amp to complement that also.

Re: New Pickups Day

I had that same guitar, but with the stock duncan designed versions. They sounded great. Alder and maple. Best place to put a JB/Jazz.
