New Pickups - I can't decide!

I'm happy with my guitar, but I'd like to replace my lower output epiphone pickups with higher output pickups (it's a lot cheaper than buying a whole entire new guitar). Although I play a lot of metal and hard rock, I don't want a sterile sounding EMG or Blackout. Here are the ones I've liked:
Duncan Custom SH-5 and TB-5
Duncan Distortion SH-6 and TB-6
Duncan Pearly Gates SH-PG1 and TBPG-1
Gibson '57 Classic
Gibson "Screaming Ceramic" 496R and 500T

Any suggestions/advice?

I'd go PGn/TB-5 or PGn/DD (sh-6). What kind of epi is it though? LP, SG, explorer, etc..??

Re: New Pickups - I can't decide!

The distortion is nice and all, but it doesn't have the warmth. That's why I balanced mine with the Jazz in the neck. If you have to get the set of pickups, get the hot-rodded set (SH-4, SH-2). Also, the Blackout AHB-1 has less output than the SH-6. Take the SH-6 off of the list if blackouts are not included as well.

Yeah man, either one of those would sound sweet in an SG. My friend has an SG with a DD set and it slays when played in dropped tunings. Playing it through a Mesa don't hurt either. :p

Custom 8 in the bridge. It's the perfect bridge pup for an SG, seriously. Do a quick search of the pickup room and you'll find everything you need to know about it.

A '59n in the neck is a great choice as well, though it can be a little boomy and a little too thick for playing rhythm chords with. A PGn is very highly thought of in an SG as well, though I haven't personally tried it yet (it's on my to-do list).

Well another thing you should tell us is what you are playing (music and amps). That will help a lot.

I have an epiphone SG with a 57 in the neck and an angus in the bridge. I love the 57 classic, it's perfect. The angus is coming out one day, I'm not happy with it at all, weak and icepicky! I plan on pulling out the angus and putting a 57 classic plus in. I can't say enough about how great the 57 sounds in my SG, warm, bluesy rock and roll.

I couldn't stand the stock humbuckers in my sg, they sounded like a fart.

That's the weak link on Epi's, the PU's. But upgrade them and you have a nice sounding guitar.
