New pickups

I have an 2008 Dean Soltero Standard which I am considering changing the pickups on. I am looking for something that will play the Blues and Side.
I am leaning toward either the 59 set or the Whole lotta Humbucker set.
Any info or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: New pickups

Welcome to the forum!!

I am personally not fond of the 59' set for blues. I find the bridge too thin and the neck too boomy. The WLH set is a good set of pickups...slightly hotter than most PAF sets, especially in the neck, IMO. I guess it also depends on what type of blues you're playing. If you're playing hotter blues with a little more gain, the WLH set will be great. If you're playing more traditional blues, lower gain but still some dirt I would suggest a set of Seths or Antiquities. The Seths will be a little more musical, present and 3D, while the Antiquities will be smoother, warmer, and to use a food term will have that certain umami quality to them. That something special that only an aged, degaused, unpotted pickup can have.

Your Soltero will have some LP characteristics, but is a little brighter if memory serves. The Slash A2P set would also be good for rock/blues, but they are wound just a tad hotter too.

Maybe a little more about the type of blues you play and the amp you use will help narrow down the suggestions that I might make, along with others.

Re: New pickups

Of those two, definitely WLH. Slide tends to be on the bright side, and '59's have a lot of high end.

As was mentioned, Seth's, A2P's, and Slash's are also great choices. Fortunately for us, Seymour has a passion for PAF's.

Re: New pickups

If your into slide then I say follow Derek Trucks lead and go for Gibson '57 classics. I have SD 59s in my ES-335 and I occasionally do some slide work with it. The 59s on the ES-335 work great for me playing blues, jazz or slide.
